If you can make the investment, it's worth it. Couple that with waiting for apps to go on sale, it can go a long way.
also, there are some (non music) apps that charge for a "pro" subscription, that is never discounted. this is the only way you can save on those IAP subscriptions that never go on sale.

Yeah it's essentially free money and it never expires. It also basically can be used to purchase anything in the Apple digital ecosystem. Spending $80 (for $100 credit) may sound like a lot but the more that you are in the Apple ecosystem the more likely you are going to spend $100 eventually. It may take six months or it may take three years but eventually you're going to reach that number. Taking advantage of one of these discounts means you only spend $80 to do it as opposed to $100.
It's also something good to take advantage of if you're looking at something like Logic Pro X. Apple never seems to discount this although it's already priced affordably at only $199. Purchase two of these $100 gift cards with the 20% discount and you get it for only $159.
Do they work in other countries stores?
Target has iTunes gift cards 15% off if you use their cartwheel app. If you have a target Red Card or a target Credit Card, you can get an additional 5% off. I just got a $100 card for $80 bucks. You can't beat that with a stick.
I guess they are doing it online as well.

@rhcball Cartwheel is an app that you can get coupons with at the store. You can scan an item with it and it will tell you if there is a coupon for it. My wife saves us money that way. Plus if you can get a Target Red Card which is linked to your bank account, and save an additional 5% off every purchase. So with the 15% plus the additional 5%, I got items gift cards for 20% off.
