How can I set the CHORD in iWAVESTATION?

iWAVESTATION has a CHORD button in the bottom left corner, next to the keyboard. Pressing it toggles chord playing on and off. But I can’t find the setting that defines what chord it plays when on and how you can modify it. The manual seems to say nothing about it. Is there a guru here who can enlighten me?

Thanks a lot. This is the button I’m talking about:

  • As far as I know you can't even change the voicing of the chords, same sh*tty situation in Gadget and its chord mode...
...apparently Korg thinks everyone loves the chord voicing they have chosen...

Cheers mate. This sounds rather ominous because you tend to know quite far... 😀

So this promises to be a short thread unless someone knows better. 🤷

  • As far as I remember (I usually just play everything on a keyboard so don’t tend to investigate scale or chord functions much), I don’t think I remember the ability to select how chords are built in the app. Seems kind of a pointless function if you can’t construct your own chords.

  • Unlike in classic synths, Chord seems to be a derivative of the selected scale.
It's the same in the built-in Kaoss Pad: Choose the scale, then tap on the KP to play. X is the root note and Y is the chord inversion. And yes, Korg does choose the chord for you 😅

  • Thanks guys, @Samu @michael_m @rs2000

Also, am I correct in thinking that you can't trigger that Korg-vetted chord (whatever it is :)) by an external midi controller, only by using the app's own keyboard - but when you do use its own keyboard you don't produce recordable midi so you can either record the outgoing audio or nothing?

Indeed, I wonder what they were thinking (or sinking?)...
I didn't even notice because ChordPolyPad has the pole position for chords here.

Speaking of which, does chordpolypad do "smart chords" (where it knows that, depending on the root, the II and III triads will be minor chords etc.)?

No, ChordPolyPad is rather a large grid of chord buttons that you're free to add or remove notes on each. It's perfect for my workflow but if you need some built-in harmony related intelligence then you'll certainly need a different app.
There are plenty and they've been discussed here too.
