"Steps - a Sequencer" - New Drum Machine/Sequencer (No AB; but functional ACP)
https://itunes.apple.com/US/app/id877295618?mt=8
For reasons unknown, I saw a dischord post about this and decided to be the sacrificial lamb to check it out. At $1.99, it wasn't a huge risk. Turns out that there's nothing wrong with it at all - it's actually a fully functional step sequencer (locked in 4/4, as many rhythm apps are) with 13 unique drum kits that sound pretty good to me. Also a nice set of effects with X/Y pads, and a super-easy AudioCopy export function for single-measure loops (which were properly sized when I tested it out). Also has step-specific velocity and pitch control, which is a relatively rare commodity.
That being said, here's a few caveats you should know about the initial build version. I make no secret that I'm a big fan of EasyBeats 3 and that universal app (which is a few bucks more expensive at $4.99) is really superior to this similar app in every significant way.
No AudioBus or IAA (didn't check the latter)
Also no live recording. Normally I don't care, but with no way to capture live performance audio, why, again, do we have X/Y pads for high/low pass filters?!
No importing your own sample kits (a superior function of EasyBeats 3). Though the 13 kits included are of decent quality and very tweakable with the effects and velocity/pitch options
Encountered some type of glitch when enabling "decay" in the AudioCopy export screen. Turned it off and the loop exported just fine. Not even sure what it does, unless perhaps it adds some type of tail-off or overlap to the end of the measure so looping is less abrupt.

Thanks for the write up. Definitely easy on the eyes. iPhone version and song mode big pluses! Lack of MIDI sync prevents it from poking out from the competition enough for me to buy it. Will keep my eye on it though because that's a nice set of features in 1.0.
You might check the app folder via iFunbox or something to see if you can import kits via workaround.
Thanks por posting this!
I'd be interested to hear if anyone has tried this app in bright sunlight...
Planning to leave England?
Actually, I had my iPad out at a picnic today and I had trouble seeing the fretlines on both iFretless Sax and Garageband due to bright sunlight. However, I wasn't just thinking of myself when I asked the question.
Oh well, I thought it was funny.
Particularly because I live in Gray Skies, USA aka Portland, Oregon.
I was amused, but also amazed.
Just wanted to mention that this app got a small update (1.0.1) addressing issue I found above with "decay" no exporting through ACP. I did get the decay feature to work. It's not entirely clear to me, however, how that would practically work with a DAW workflow, other than perhaps the last measure of a song (or a part where the drums cut out).
For example, at 120bpm, you have 2-second measures, but a cymbal crash or something towards the end of the measure would sustain beyond the end of the pattern, and would be cut off by the loop. You could arrange alternating tracks where one cuts in as the other is cutting out. But that wouldn't necessarily be right either, because the decay of one cymbal, hat, etc. may overlap with a new hit on that same instrument (which is impossible, of course). But it does work now.
The app is small enough for me not to delete it, but it isn't particularly special. At least the samples it has sound a little different than the clones you hear on many other drum apps.
