Random velocity generator?

edited July 2021 in General App Discussion

Hi,
Sorry if this has been already discussed or if it is from comun knoweldge but I was wondering if there is some kind of midi app that can generate random velocity . I'm not speaking about random velocity presets. (randomization with custom restrictions like, frequency and intensity of the variations).

Velocity variations make a midi event alive so I guess it could make it even more alive and human like if velocity changes randomly and constantly as it would with a human musician.

Of course we can manualy change the velocity for every single note but it sounds quite artificial in a short midi loop of 2 or 4 bars. So having new velocity everytime the midi loop is playing again would be really cool.

Any easy straightforward way of doing that?

  • Mozaic would be my go to, should be pretty simple I think...

  • I use Mozaic
A script on Patchstorage.com has a pach called Ranbo note humaniser.
    Its a great script.

  • Oh! Glad to hear that!
    Thank you both guys!

  • StreamByter also would fit perfectly.

  • Something can be cooked up in MiRack very easily.

  • You could use the humanizer module in Drambo as a midi effect. You could even modulate the velocity amount with an lfo for even more variety.

  • Midi Tools has a module called Midi Curve that lets you randomize the velocity.

  • Thank you all! Great!
I didn't know there were so many options really!
I'll follow your advices and experiment with the apps you suggest.

  • Cality also does this

All Good suggestions. I’d probably vote for Mozaic. Ranbo is one of my favorite Patchstorage Mozaic scripts. I Also just use, Atom 2 which has this feature built right into the piano roll under the process option. Some of the bud apps have velocity randomization, Arp Bud 2, step Bud, snake Bud… then there’s always cc modulation on the synths volume or key velocity, and even an audio effect like Bleass Motion FX, could do trick. But for midi if you don’t have atom 2 I’d go Mozaic, I think it’s still on sale… actually if you do have atom 2 still get Mozaic. So, so many uses in one app.

  • Maybe I am wrong but I think Mozaic is AU only I can't be used outside of a host (AUM, ApeMatrix, ...).
Just to point out that fact, in case it's of any importance...

I just started to use the Mozaic Ranbo script and it works quite well!
Didn t know Atom2 had this function. I ll have a look at it since I have it.
    Thank you very much!

It was mainly to use it on perc and synth inside AUM and Cubasis. But thank you for the info!
