"Powerful Hammer" Minimalist Old-School Dubstep created in Korg Gadget!!!

In case you wondered why my output slowed down, this is what happened...

The idea was to create a cross between a Minimal Techno/Acid and Pre-Skrillex old-school Dubstep in Korg Gadget. After several attempts and about a week and a half at trying to lock in the concept, I think I finally nailed it. Here's how the instruments break down.

For my usual silent sidechain trigger, I use CHat Detroit in Recife. For my kick and snare, I used Tokyo. For the hi hats I used Dublin.

The subbass is Chiangmai. The wobble bass is Dublin. The rolling 16th-note bass is Chicago.

The chime sound is Toy Piano from Marseille. The hi string is the Slow Strings patch from Marseille. Finally, the intermittent synth that signals once in a while is Pompei.

Mastered in Cubasis 3 with the usual MagicDeathEyeStereo, BarkFilter Tripleband, and TB Barricade. Cheers and enjoy. ^_^

  • Not sure what direction to go with next in my quest for Minimalist perfection. Hoping to get some comments on this piece.

    Awesome one, brother

Is there something like Minimal Acid?

    Thanks mate. 🙂

Exactly the feel I was going for. 🙂 Wanted to harken back to the feeling and memories of an era before Brostep. Not that I got anything against Brostep, but that old school Dubstep scene was more like a tightly knit underground community rather than a worldwide fanbase.

Heehee, we were just discussing Minimal Acid and such here.

Might require Pure Acid for that authentic 303 bass sound. :)

  • Had plenty of 303 stuff on IOS already (Tabletop, Technobox, Bassline, Rhythm Studio, Rebirth, Caustic, Gadget, Troublemaker and Pure Acid), maybe forgot one... but Pure Acid is the best as of now
Chicago inside gadget can do some fun, but it seems more Volca Bass than 303 to me 😂

I agree. Pure Acid is the closest I've found that can recreate that 303 acid sound faithfully (with Troublemaker as an extremely close second).

 Chicago is definitely more of a Volca Bass, but I end up using it on my Minimal tracks a lot of the time anyway for rolling 16th note basslines.

Believe this or not, but Dublin is pretty great at crafting acid sounds.

Is it a faithful 303 recreation? Nope. Does it do a serviceable-enough of a job? To my ears, yes.

  • It sure does! This track is great. And Dublin is pure magic 🥰

  • Thanks mate. :) Yes, Dublin is pure magic. It seems like such a simple synth, but the range of timbres I'm able to get out of it is endless. x'D I mean, I got the wobble bass in the dubstep track out of Dublin as well as that acid bass sound in the "Acid Experiment" track.

  • Absolutely! Last year when re-doing the into of Daft Punk's "Da Funk" with Dublin, I was quite surprised by how capable it is.
