  • Thanks

  • Not getting any sound. Anyone else?

  • Yes same here. Deleted

  • Touch the chord name at the top left of the screen to here the chord you have chosen/created. Or, if you have chosen/created more than one ( as indicated by the number at the upper left), touch the V in the lower right corner to play the chords in you list/song.

  • No dice.

  • I was getting no sound at first then I realized I had my iPad on mute. After that it worked.

  • Not sure how I will ever use but it does seem to work technically speaking.

  • Thanks @fjcblanco, that does make sense now.

  • Third video made my brain bleed. Huh?

I'm only downloading right now, but on that 3rd video, isn't he basically just building chords with a keyboard, similar to the way you would in ChordPolyPad, dot-Melody, or a number of other apps? The different rows of the keyboard are the octave of the note you are programming.

If you look at it purely as a free Virtual MIDI controller that allows you to build chords or select from a pretty extensive list, that's a pretty good little app. (Turns out it DOES have AudioBus, also, which is something MIDI apps tend to think they can overlook, but shouldn't).

The chord suggestion logic, however, is either poorly explained or not all that great. There seem to be strength bars suggesting stronger matches, but where do I set my overall key? Is it all in relation to the first chord, or simply the previous one?

Yeah it looked upon fist watch like "here's how to do minor key" and then he was going in and manually tweaking chords with no explanation of what he was doing. After a few watches I figured out he was just changing the octave of the notes and not the notes of the chord itself.

It looks like one of the lower rows is where you select the song key and major or minor.

  • You can also use that to create chord inversions, which is pretty nice.

Once you select a key it looks like it just gives you strength bars for all of the individual chords, not for the progression itself. After you've selected a number of chords and then go into play mode it's up to you to experiment and find good combinations. I was kind of thinking/hoping it would help with creating the progression itself, such as looking back 1 or 2 bars and then suggesting the most appropriate next chords in that series.

I like the way ChordMapMidi is set up for finding interesting progressions based on following gravity downwards in any fashion you like (you may need to see a video of the app to understand what I mean). Too bad that developer hasn't implemented minor keys into it yet like he promised.
