HDMI to USB adapter (need iPad powered)

edited August 2021 in App Tips and Tricks

I’m thinking of getting hdmi to usb c adapter because my power delivery usb c hub has 3 usb and 1 hdmi and I need 4 USB ports.

I’ve tried all sorts of configurations but they aren’t working.

So will this work?

Alternatively I thought of getting usb c y splitter and placing it between the iPad and the hub.

The objective of the exercise is to have 3 usb controllers and an interface connected while charging my iPad.

Any informed opinions?

  • @supadom You could connect a conventional USB hub to one of the USB ports. That would give you enough USB ports. I'd put the audio interface on the main hub, and some of the controllers on the second one.

Your title mentions HDMI, but are you really interested in HDMI video?

I’ve tried that with different passive hubs but for some reason circuit tracks turns off as soon as I plug it. There should be enough power because I have it all connected to the wall plug but somehow there isn’t.

One of the minuses of Tracks is that it has usb c socket for power as well as data connection so I have less control over it unlike the old circuit that let me power via a psu. This is somewhat improved because it runs off a 5v but sometimes causes unpredictable results.

Does circuit tracks work when connected to a USB port on the main hub?

It might require the higher power that an actual computer USB-C port can supply. So it might not be compatible with a USB-A connection at all.

Edit: Of course, a passive (unpowered) USB hub is limited to the total power supplied to its USB port by the main hub, likely 5W (1A @ 5V). So it adds ports, but the connected devices need to be light on power use.

You could try a powered USB hub for the secondary connection. Then the connected devices would all be powered from the hub 5V power supply. For example this, https://atolla.us/products/4-port-usb-hub-with-power.
