  • I bought shreddage on my desktop and loaded the samples into audiolayer then play it through THU or Tonebridge. I find it does the job and my guitarist friends have said it’s the most realistic midi guitar they have ever heard. The shreddage 1 samples were pretty cheap from memory. And Audiolayer is the best sampler to use for them. Pretty buggy though and I found I had to figure out many work around to prevent clicks and crashes. But I got there in the end so still I recommend it!

Also +1 for Riffler. The samples are great and although it’s a generative app there is a lot of possible customisation. Also the app is constantly evolving

Yes I’ve got Riffler it’s a great app.
Thanks for everyone’s suggestions and help so far.

  • Sampletank CS
Swar Plug for arabic sitars etc
    4Pockets MIDI strummer

  • Jam maestro is awesome (being able to change time signatures without a hassle in the same track, and having tabs instead of a pianoroll are a major plus for me). But as you mentioned, and much like geoshred, the sounds leave much to be desired if you’re a guitarist. I’ve been experimenting with the resonator in mirack + a bunch of effects. Did you try removing the effects in geoshred and adding your own? Also the widesawlead in animoog can be tweeked to sound like a distorted guitar with the advantage of it supporting mpe.

Yes your right Jam Maestro makes so much sense to me coming from a guitar background. It would be the ultimate guitar app if it had good sounds but I know that’s not what the developer made it for. Like I said in a previous post a Jam Maestro 2 with good sounds would be amazing.

On another note I’ve downloaded Audiolayer and I’ve immediately regretted it. It’s impossible to use. I downloaded the guitar samples and SFZ files to go with them and I don’t understand why it won’t load the samples from the SFZ file as I thought that’s what was supposed to happen. Then I manually loaded in some samples and just got tons of clipping!

  • I've stopped my experimentation. But it was basically a mix of using Jam Maestro riffs, Guitarism strums, iFretless and/or geoshred solos. And sound sources layered from all of these (+ sampletank and soundfonts).
And piped to amp sims 😂

  • Jam Maestro has MIDI out. There's no need to be limited to the internal sounds.

@WigWamBam - sfz import does work in most cases, but it can be finicky. This wiki article may help: https://wiki.audiob.us/doku.php?id=audiolayer

  • @WigWamBam - if all you need to do is play back sfz files, bismark bs-16i and the SoundFonts app are good choices. Of course you can't modify/enhance in those though.

Sounds pretty much what I’m going for🤣

    I’ve got Bismark bs-16i I didn’t know it played sfz I thought it was just sf2 files🤷🏻‍♂️

Oh jeez ... you're right. I dunno what I was thinking. I guess I converted some sfz files to sf2 at some point along the way.

    Sorry for the misinformation.

I should probably add it’s an electric guitar sound I’m after.

My favourite app I’ve downloaded this week has to be jam maestro it’s a great app for guitar players. It’s got everything you need to create guitar based songs. I’m just not happy with the sound of the electric guitars. The slides and mutes sound horrible, if only they could do a version 2 with better sounding guitars

    have you tried guitarism?

  • +1 for riffler. This app has so much potential and its only in the beginning of its journey. Yeah it’s a generative tool but I the outputs sound so good!

  • Today I heard about Sire guitars. The reputation is good. Never tried one. I also know that PRS guitar are always great, even the cheapest one. Any other suggestion about great value under $650?

Ibanez. Generally pretty good mid-range price guitars.

  • After all these comments I’m now thinking how cool it would be if Jon released an acoustic Riffler next 🤩 I would buy that in a flash.

  • Are you looking for a sound that you will use over and over or a particular sound for a particular song?

You could also look at the gear guitarists use for the genre and try running plugins through those amps?
