Soundfont Player Still Needed in 2021

We thought about creating a SoundFont Player using our synth architecture that would convert the soundfonts into streaming samples and possibly adding other synth formats.

Is this still needed in 2021?

Sounds cool, would be a nice addition to ones Arsenal.

  • A more capable SFZ editor and player AU would be more ideal.

--Create, edit, and play SFZ/SF2 instruments
    --Create instruments from imported samples
--Add / organize samples/SFZ using Files app
    --AU parameters for filters etc

    Basically Zampler for iOS.

  • Everything auxmux just said- yes please!

  • SoundFonts AU is pretty decent, there’s also bs-16.

However something new and more advanced could be interesting…

A SoundFont player that would be able to stream large instruments from disk while consuming only a small amount of RAM would be very welcome!
I don't know of any AUv3 that does it yet. AudioLayer only supports SFZ AFAIK...

    Thanks for asking btw!

  • Probably worth asking how many people use them. I do and I would welcome a Sf/Sfz/Sf2 player that is either released with a full set of features or has a dedicated road map for them.

I'm sure you mean something that's a significant enhancement over regular sound font players, but I don't understand from your description what that means. Streaming from disk while conserving RAM, to allow using huge instruments would be grand, if that's one feature you had in mind. Being able to use external storage as in your other apps would be great too. But I get the impression you mean more than that - I just don't understand what.

If what you’re saying is being able to effectively import soundfonts into a Pure Synth type of player, with the ability to mix different soundfonts in one preset and edit each one’s ADSR curves, modulation, etc, whilst storing the actual soundfont files on an external SSD then yes, this would be awesome.

That would be an insta-buy. 👍🏼

[edit] ...if it did both SFZ and SF2. ESX would be good too, though I never use it.

  • Sounds fantastic, but please make it SFZ!!!

  • Yes! Definitely, but make it for sfz and sf2 please. 🙂

  • Scala or tun microtonal support would put a soundfont app in the instabuy territory for me. None of the existing ios apps can handle scales.

  • Lyra within Auria loads and plays SF2, SFZ v1, and EXS instruments.

  • sf2 is good but something that could also do sfz would be awesome.

Yes, I think he means having exactly an “MK Sensation Extreme” but with imported sf2/sfz instead of built-in sounds.
That would mean being able to :

    • apply ADSR, filters and so on to each note, relatively to incoming velocity
    • create layers and splits
    • load huge SF from an external SSD

For advanced soundfonts features like editing samples, editing velocity layers, scripting round robins, saving your own sf2/sfz files, ... I don’t know.

If I guess right, I think there is still a place in the iOS market of 2021.

  • Soundfont editor too!

I do as well, an amp envelope would be sweet, to alter the SF and add some ADSR, If that is possible to do…

    Agreed.

  • something like Caustic 3 PCM Synth which reads sf2/sfz and some other files formats, plus its also a sampler which means you can edit sf2 files, basically what im saying is that i do wish for a auv3 that has every feature as the pcm synth plus some extra functions and options, can a developer takes some inspiration from the caustic 3 pcm synth because that would be a great idea for an auv3 Soundfont player / Sampler including all the editing options in it
