But where do I put the succulent plants for the YouTube jams?
True. I had to get rid of my succulents.
I had these cloned behringer succulents and i got tired discussing the pros, cons, and moral points of them.
Another benefit of the OP-Z (I sound like a shill I know) is the excellent battery life. You can take it with you anywhere and get many hours of use out of it, which is something I normally love about my iOS devices for music making. Elektron gear would require some fancy batteries and cable to run remotely, and even the new battery powered handle for the Models units just got recalled.
I use launch control xl and nanokontrol studio. Traktor kontrol z1 and a cheap keyboard I got on amazon that’s actually got a better build quality than Korg, Novation and others.
You can’t beat an original analogue succulent. Such warmth.
Ayay, already!? The opz does look very cool I must say! And shill away!
100% agree. I gave in and bought a Digitakt when the double-triggering got too severe on my OP-Z. The DT is a ton of fun to use, especially with the v1.30 update, but it’s essentially a desktop machine — external batteries don’t always work super well and the whole “mobile DT setup” is bulky at the best of times. And since it doesn’t have a built-in microphone, you have to deal with all sorts of cables if you want to do any field recording.
I managed to fix my OP-Z’s double-triggering with Deoxit and since then I’ve brought it with me everywhere. I agree that it’s too expensive to have the issues it has, but it’s also the only thing out there that really does what it does.
People always compare it to Elektron devices because of the trig conditions but the Digitakt only has one conditional parameter: how often will the step trigger? Every time it triggers, all parameter locks and step settings (eg retrig, LFO, etc.) are active. I believe their other devices are the same but I’ve only used the DT so far.
The OP-Z has three conditions: how often will the step trigger, how often will parameter locks engage, and how often will step components engage? It’s a little bit more to think about but you can get some extremely complex patterns going with minimal effort.
Any issues with the z1? I keep debating if i wanna try going with a full dj controller like an s8 (rather than a xone mixer) as its class compliant, editable midi, and probably could do a lot more scripted with mozaic/streambyter.
If you sing , check out the Roland MV-1, versalab . It works w Zenbeats kinda like the OPZ works w iPad.
@Tarekith : I had to OPZ and returned it but damn, that’s a nice video you did, showing how it works with the iPad .
Thanks! I had bought an OP-Z when they first came out, but for some odd reason I just couldn't get into it and ended up selling mine too. Then I spent months thinking about all the things it could do that nothing else I have does, and ended up rebuying it. Now I love it, bonded with it instantly the second time around
Are these Digitakt and OP things the boxes that when the battery craps out you have to throw them into land fill? Or can you replace the batteries?
My second bite of the op-z cherry starts when my second unit arrives next month. I had one, traded up for an op-1, sold that after 16 months, now back to the z. It’s had a few upgrades, but I’ve had more, and I’m really looking forward to tackling it again. Such a powerful sequencer, and the portability is important to me. I’m much more likely to use a piece of gear I can carry around.
The op-z battery is replaceable.
@Tarekith who makes your rack units on your desk?
OK, thanks.
EDIT: now it is coming back to me (I think). Was it the Roli keyboard or Roli blocks that you can't replace the batteries? I think I saw a YT video about that. Bad memory...
Roli's you def cannot. Theyre next to dead anyway (companywise).
Love my opz
My latest setup that I've been using over the last week after much planning is using the ipad to make loops, one shots, chords and synth stabs. I build up a folder of samples from these.
I have built a modular case with sampler, analogue synth, modulation and fx. I transfer my samples from the ipad then sequence them and the rack synth with my opz and then add the opz sounds to jam and create a track.
Only at the early stage and been working on my first piece this weekend but I love this setup.
If you can find them, it seems that only ifixit in the UK has them and won’t ship internationally.
Audiorax.com Very well made, though I got naked ones and finished them myself. The mount for the rack that holds it to my desk is also something I made myself as well.
