I still have my im2 and it does work pretty well. Not the greatest mics but definitely not the worst either. I have an iPod touch and 2 iPads with 30 pin connectors and as you said, it does work with the adapter.
I use a homemade binaural head in my recordings and I love the binaural technique and resulting sound. Right now I can’t get the amber headset but hopefully it’s still not expensive when I can, it would be a cool option when on the go.
I’ve taken these on my holiday to do my “ambient improvised electronic music outside” thing. This is one of the first results (definitely got promise for what I like doing) - iPhone with AUM, Animoog, Xynthesizr, SunrizerXS, ThumbJam, DM1 for iPhone, TapDelay, & AU3FXSpace.
Very nice - beautiful in fact!
@richardyot - thank you. It was a lot of fun doing that one. But as the tide was coming in quite quickly "Take 3" ended with both my feet being a little wet, and my family shouting at me to remind me that the tide was coming in :-)
I noticed that when I was listening to the tracks back on headphones later the 3D ambient-ness was a bit disconcerting. More than once I looked around for the barking dog/crying child/tweeting birds.
Used these mics to record a very special performance in a ‘first person perspective’. The Audio quality that they captured is absolutely fantastic though -- completely beautiful!
I’ll tell you more about it soon!

Lovely
Looking forward to it, thanks for sharing.
many thanks for the tip off @richardyot !
just took delivery of a set & went for a quick stroll, top quality & the 3D capture is great.
question .... is the firmware update safe, anyone know ?
Should be fine, no reported problems.
2 questions related:
a) anyone knows an iOS quick-record app !? for snappy initiation of recording !?
audioshare is great but it takes some time to start recording and manage...
b) anyone did/has/bought windjammer for these ? any examples/help sharing ?!
thanks
There are reports of the firmware update being faulty on some of the app store reviews but that was long ago in the past. The current app firmware updates without any issues, although it took a little longer than I had expected (but not too long - I’m just an impatient bugger at times!).
I just wear a hat that covers my ears, which works reasonably well.
Firmware went ok on my black Ambeo and white Ambeo headsets
richardyot:
thanks. I thought of that but - isnt that hat itself (creases moving) producing noises while one moves?!
I'll try this in a week ... cold weather ...:)
what I thought is scissors + https://mymic.rycote.com/producttypes/overcovers/
(i'll order ...)
I try not to move when recording anyway, otherwise there is bound to be rustling of clothes, cable thump, footsteps etc
"otherwise there is bound to be rustling of clothes, cable thump"
Yeah, but we are trying to avoid looking like Edward Scissorhands...
I have a private preview link now that I’m happy to share via DM, so if anyone would like to view it then just send me a message. It has the audio recorded with these microphones set to video.
cheers folks, failed on first attempt, success with the second
for parts for sale on eBay uk super cheap, bought, tested and (after firmware update with app) working.
There’s a uk eBay seller that’s been selling job lots of these, currently 7 for £29.99 and 4 for £20, listed as ‘for parts’.
I wanted a second backup pair of these, as I find the ones I have very good and very useful, so I took a punt on 3 black ones for £19.99. Very happy to say they are open box, but as new and, after a firmware update using the Apogee smart headset app, they are working perfectly.
Got a link by any chance?
EBay search was ‘sennheiser ambeo headset’, but looks like they’ve all gone, for now at least. Somebody somewhere bought 7 for £29.99, so maybe they’ll be selling a few on?..
Cheers - figured they probably had all gone...!
