Aurora / The limits of ambient?
2nd in DRC series. 4 tracks of DRC, featuring the ARP preset in Constellations Toolkit, Aurora Borealis. One more track of PureSynthPlatinum. The THX Dolby crescendo at the beginning is a preset called Finally. I would have used it more but it was difficult to trigger during the track.
There’s a lot going on here but it still feels like ambient to me. Is it?

If I had to catalog this into a genre I'd label it with something like:
Synthphonic (you had a whole synphonic series but this is solidly synth-y)
Sceneamatology (conjuring visuals for the listener's imagination)
Audiolatry (the worship of unique, elegant sounds)
Ambient seems less intentional in my catalog and relies on elements that are more
coincidental than intended.
I really reminds me of the Wendy Carlos soundtrack work for A Clockwork Orange (an adaption of her Switched on Bach album). As for is it ambient, I always think of ambient as a mood rather than a music genre. Great ambient DJs will mix music from all corners of the musical universe, rather than sellecting tracks from their Now Thats What I Call Ambient collection!
Really interesting piece, definitely got a soundtrack vibe - the end credits.![ ](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
Huge! Love the glides and shimmery sounds. 👏👏
Beautifully cinematic.
One an always rely on SoundCloud’s judgement to pick the genre😉. It identifies this one as classical/ orchestral.
@jonmoore, I love the Carlos soundtrack and her Ludwig Van take on Clockwork Orange. Great with the old Moloko and some eggywegs.
Thanks @Spidericemidas and @richardyot. Appreciate the ears.
