Why can’t Mummy see the Nightfriend?

This is what comes of reading an article about creepy kid’s paintings… Es Spukt, it haunts:

I decided that some of my recent stuff was actually in danger of turning into a recognisable tune, with notes and everything, so this is a return to ma roots, y’all… Just a whole heck of a lot of reverbs, a squeaky gate field recording, and my own breathing diced and sliced by Sector, plus a touch of Fundamental and Droneo, well, droning, for some of that good old home-baked Lovecraftian Atmos.

  • Loved it
I did notice more melodic touches in some tracks. But not to the point of turning it into recognisable tunes. So don't worry

    Do you recommend Fundamental?
Trying to justify purchasing it. I know i'll eventually get it... so not sure what's the point of struggling

@senhorlampada : hi, thanks for the listen - and the reassurance :) (tricky things, tunes…)

Yes, I would whole heartedly recommend Fundmental, despite some of its’ much discussed idiosyncrasies ( very irritating way you can easily overwrite presets, fiddly, small controls, weird sizing issues etc…). I usually set it to trigger looping, with several bands in motion, as long and slow as possible, and then either use it straight, or capture the output in Gauss.

Droneo, https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/droneo/id313811077 which is IAA only is a good alternative/complement , (still available and rock solid under 14.7.1 for me, though it hasn’t been updated since 11) with a different take on creating evolving drones.

  • Thanks for the feedback
I have droneo... I never thought they were similar enough to be alternative. But now that you mention it... makes sense...

Droneo, Phaserings, Drone FX, Spacevibe and DM2/DrumLab are my go-to to lay down an initial drone layer 😂

  • Ha! Of the others you mentioned there, I only have DM2, and I never thought to use it for drones. Gonna have to look those others up now…
