Biomusic : Patience young Grasshopper…

The 5th in a series of British bird inspired pieces.
We are lucky enough to have Grasshopper Warblers a few fields away from us. We never see them as they are extremely secretive little things but they sound just like giant grasshoppers!
Here, two audio tracks of them calling (actually called reeling) have been processed through multiple instances of A2M to drive a variety of effects and sounds sources.

  • What a cool idea! I never would have imagined using audio to midi like that. Really beautiful mix of natural sounds and generated midi sounds. Well done!

  • This stuff is great. I look forward to a BandCamp album!

  • Thanks @MadeofWax and @LinearLineman.
I had thought of doing a piece using the Grasshopper Warbler but couldn’t work anything out… the call is pretty unique. Then A2M came along and bingo!. The app is a bit flakey to be honest but the developers are aware of the issues and gave the impression a few weeks ago that they were working on an updated version. This is a video showing the AUM setup and, as is the nature of these semi random pieces, it sounds a bit different. The basic concept of audio to midi opens up a whole world of possibilities for creating music from sounds in the environment.
@LinearLineman , not sure what the advantages of a BandCamp album are compared with one in SoundCloud? Any views?

  • Brilliant work @GeoTony! I meant to post earlier when I listened the first time, but as everyone else, being pulled in so many different directions!

Excellent use of MIDI, effects, and the samples of these beautiful little creatures here!

  • Btw, I’ve been in the mindset that all these publishing sites (band camp, SoundCloud, soundCLICK, etc ..Spotify?) are more work than it’s worth. I mean, if one has the free time, then by all means..
