  • Nice, Doug! Thanks for this.

    Thanks Doug :)

I think it's worth mentioning that you can automate parameters on an audio track synth or on a non Cubasis FX app (onboard never get used here) by having an extra midi track as an automation lane. The midi track then allows CC automation to any midi out.

If we could only automate the jip onboard fx or channel strip parameters, I would be complaining loudly!

  • Great video Doug thanks, the only item I'm having trouble getting my head around is setting up for CC use with other apps so if anyone can explain this that would be great.

  • Thanks, Doug!

  • Nice one Doug !!

So I'll see if I can explain (updated ;)- as there are a fair few different scenarios that can be used and some apps may well work a bit differently. This is a general overview -

CC automation is only available on a midi channel, visible by clicking in the piano roll boxes (not on the left automation panel). This is needed to automate most 'non-proprietary' apps / fxs.

    1. So a midi track with IAA synth or fx you can (usually) add automation to fairly simply just by selecting CC's

    2. For a midi track with non IAA synth or fx (i.e. in those appearing in audiobus chain) you can send them CC info from the same midi channel and route the Cubasis routing panel output to the synth, fx or virtual midi on the correct channel(AUFX Dub seemed to only work here with Virtual Midi)

    3. For an audio track with an IAA synth or fx (or where the non IAA fx is in audiobus chain) you have to apply automation on a separate midi track as CC's do not appear on an aidio track

    • have your audio track running with an IAA synth / IAA fx or FX in audiobus chain
    • create new midi track
    • add blank midi box in piano roll
    • open to access CC editing at bottom
    • draw some CC data and map midi track routing to correct port and number (probably virtual midi if app you want to connect to doesn't show up itself

All of these scenarios usually involve setting the midi input source and channel on the synth / fx unit.

  • Thanks Doug (and @skoptic) for teaching us Cubasis. Audiobus=Schoolbus!
