A Lullaby Of Spiders
5th in the LaGrange project. This time @Spidericemidas’ “Lullaby” patch. Plus Module acoustic piano and two Module string tracks.
This is kinda interesting because when the piano comes in you hear the notes I used to trigger Spider’s ARP. I try to use ARPs as melodic vehicles rather than repetitive phrases. As I’m improvising i don’t really hear the underlying melody. I’m just listening to the music of the ARP. When I plug in a piano I hear what I intuitively did to trigger the phrases generated.

Nice, LL!
It’s “spider season” in my area again and we get some pretty big ones.
Changed my mind. This is my favourite one in the series now. A perfect piece for a magical Disney scene or a nature doc like a Butterfly hatching or something. Very nice indeed.
I think I know what you mean about the way you trigger and use Arps to produce melody lines rather than have them running constantly. I do the same thing in AUM especially with the Arps I made in Lagrange. I connect a Bram Bos Particles to a Lagrange Arp. I don’t have too many particles, for keeping some space. I set the particles length to about 1-2 bars enough to sustain the Arps long enough to produce a few notes. I set the particles quantize or speed to something slower like 1/4 or 1/8 to keep timing more rigid and controlled. So as the particles trigger across the key I’m in, they make the Arps play a few notes at a time in a melodic way. It works really well.
Dear LL, what a lovely composition, open and clear, the chord build-up so delicate strong and musical.
If you had the interest or peace of mind to really work it out and produce it your music would be of highest top quality.
I envy you ...
frenq.
This is a rather charming piece. Has a steady gentle percolator rhythm, with a delicate dusting on top thanks to the airy strings. NIce style.

Thanks for the listen @NeuM and @Dav.
@Spidericemidas, I thought your hiss/sizzle layer in the patch was particularly arachnidy.
Thanks for the great compliment @Frenq. I, fortunately, lack the ability to actually compose traditionally.
This album was completed in 5 days. I have a queue of four tracks from it still to be posted!
But, even if I could do as you wisely suggest, not many more would be listening, I think. So I’m just here for the endorphic thrill of the chase and the satisfaction that a handful of people here, whom I like, are listening.
Yes. And created spontaneously.
Very true but the key word is "work"... some way of benefitting from the extra effort in terms of compensation. As it is most postings here get little response and SoundCloud is riddled with bots:
"Great music... Google WorkFromHome.scam"
I suspect @LinearLineman focus his efforts on minimizing the pain of real critical analysis since that's a slippery slope to "writer's block". He pushes negative thoughts out of the way and tries to avoid over editing.
His abilities are a result of a life time of searching for this particular creative process and the mental
pathways are a by product of a lot of listening and scale/pattern work to build a vocabulary of options.
It's worth considering that there are other paths to create and they are all valid and have an audience
that would value the results, albeit a small audience for the majority of us. In general, other creators tend to make the best listeners because they can detect the truly unique.
Thanks for writing that @McD. Lots of insight there. The freedom to create WITHOUT criticism is liberating indeed. As is anonymity. We need affirmation, but like bay leaves in a stew... just a small amount does the trick.
Connie Crothers, my teacher of long ago, gave me a lot of knowledge. As Importantly, maybe moreso, she gave me constant affirmation. Maybe even enough to last a lifetime. It wasn’t just me, she gave it freely to all who knelt to drink at the fountainhead of improvisation.
Connie’s father, Ed Crothers, was frequently at her apartment when I came for a lesson. Out of sight he heard me play many times. Connie told me, with a laugh and a twinkle, that he liked my stuff more than hers. Can you imagine? Her own father... and not a speck of disappointment. And, believe me, she had a very healthy ego! Definitely not to be tangled with.
Limitless affirming. She had that. And it was a rare gift, indeed.
