Voices In The Sky

Voices In The Sky is the name of @Spidericemidas’ LaGrange patch. Another great one. Inspiring the use of Module Choir and two tracks of Mercato Strings. BeatHawk Total Bass.

@richardyot’s presets coming next!

  • This is a surprisingly restrained effort, Mike. But to great effect. Very tone poem in structure... suitable for slow-motion cinematic flower blossoming or a sunrise/set scene. It unfolds with few sharp edges.
    I'm a sucker for this type of composition... I love music that requires me to provide images to complete the experience.

    I just spent an hour or two comparing StaffPad string libraries (since they are currently discounted at 33%) and your music reminds me that for a whole category of string music Korg Module Pro or iSymphonic hits all the right buttons for an orchestral experience. So, I hold back... not requiring the suite of articulations that the $70 StaffPad libraries would offer me.

  • Excellent, Mike! I agree with @McD comments. Very cinematic and slo-mo. Graceful. Love the little pauses before the Strings fade in again. There’s a really nice big chord resolution(?) towards the end which leads into the outro, very satisfying. Really enjoyed this one. Shaping up to be another great album! That voice patch with the strings was quite ELO at times too. ❤️

  • I love this sound. Lots of possibilities. Makes be Really want to grab LaGrange now. Question about how you record these - do you play all the sounds/parts at the same time live? Or layering in separate takes. Just curious as to how you improv these wonderful sound scapes.

    Thanks @McD and @Spidericemidas. The Korg Orchestral Dreams string variants are very good, indeed. I prefer them, generally, to ISymphonic. I would add PureSynthPlatinum as my third resource. And I like Beathawk for pizzicato presets.

    Yes, this is subtler than most of my stuff. It’s a bit of an evolution, I think.

  • @dav, I record the two handed improvisation and, additionally, split it into bass and treble tracks with Midi Keyzone splitter. I then use the three discrete tracks to assign instruments and orchestrate, adding a lead or drum track separately.
