Modal Pro now supports Audiobus
Modal Pro version 1.0.2 was just released today, coming with Audiobus output port support.
I'm the developer, so I'd be more than happy to answer questions, take requests, etc... I've heard from several people that external input would be a great addition. I think so too, and it's definitely something I'm thinking about for future releases.
Cheers,

Cool! Est-tu quebecois par hasard?
Nice synth btw, any new modules you can think of is well welcome!
Reminds me a bit of Audulus.
@jovansystem I really like the app and the ability to morph between presets is great. There is a bug in the Audiobus implementation as the AB dock items in the app are frozen and can't be put away. The icons change when you add new apps to AB, but pressing on the dock icons does nothing. Fortunately the sound routing still works well. I'm using an iPad Mini running iOS 7.1.1 and deleted the app and reinstalled it with the same results.
Everything runs fine on the iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.1 Both iPads have the issues of the red Audiobus recording bar at the top of the screen blocking the app's menu at the top of the screen too. Hopefully these issues can be fixed soon.
I really thought you did a good job with the tutorial in the app as well and it's a good way somebody new to modulars can learn about them.
@paradiddle oui.
@Paulinko I couldn't reproduce the issue with the dock right away, but we'll look into it for the next update. Thanks also for pointing out the status bar issue, that will definitely be taken care of as soon as possible. I test the app frequently with an iPad 2 and there are no problems. The performance is even comparable to the iPad 3 due to the lighter GUI load.
And, as I've posted elsewhere, yes, it looks a bit like Audulus, but the layout was decided before Audulus came out. They're both modular synthesis apps where signals flow left-to-right. Despite superficial similarities, the focus is rather different.
The main goal of Modal Pro is to make something hard as easy as possible. I made this app thinking of people who want to go a bit deeper into synthesis than just selecting presets but who are put off by the learning curve.
Modal Pro is about learning how to patch modular synths, but as we'll be adding more tutorials it's also going to be about learning about sound itself. It's a "synthesizer workshop" because it's a place to build instruments, but also because it's a place you go to learn.
How is this compared to the Modular app? Because I so rarely see anybody on here comment on it or about it (modular). And that one is a gem. Yes it freezes at times and it is wise to save often. But I am just curious if modal pro is similar or can do more than modular. (I bought every music AB app I could until recently as now there are too many repeats.)

Very true. I wish Pulse Code would add more modules.
Modal Pro is capable of polyphonic play, Modular is only monophonic. That's a biggie right there.
I posted some questions on another thread but they didn't get answers:
Interesting and looks easy to use for a modular synth. It seems to be lacking a few things - perhaps those who have it can comment: Pulse width on square wave? Can oscillators be used in the Lfo range? Control inputs for the Adsr? Mod wheel? (Or other control sources?) Anything else I am missing?
I agree, the polyphony is a biggie and also the way it glides in polyphony is great.
What Modular has over Modal is that you can latch the arpeggiator and start messing with the knobs for some instant results - that is a lot of experimental fun.
In Modal you have to tap through each parameters subscreen to change the settings meaning you can't mess with multiple knobs and have instant results as in Modular, but and there is a big But, in Modal you can make 8 saves of parameter settings for each preset and morph between them, so that' pretty cool.
I like both a lot.
Hi @PhilW, to answer your questions:
Pulse width on square? No. A variable-width rectangle oscillator is a very likely candidate for a new module. Probably sooner than later.
LFO? All oscillators can be tuned from 0.1 to 16,744 Hz.
ADSR inputs? No. That means that you cannot use signals to modulate the parameters. You can change them as you play, just not at audio rate.
Which brings up the control sources. One of the "special" features of Modal Pro is the preset slider, which allows you to take snapshots of the state of your patch and interpolate between them. Currently, this slider is mapped to the mod wheel. I think there's room for improvement as far as control mapping is concerned, and so that's one area we'll be working on. That being said, in my own totally not biased opinion, I think the preset slider is pretty swell and great fun to use as is.
Great, thanks for the answers.
Does this bad boy have midi learn or any midi control for modulation and whatnot?
Hi @otem_rellik, currently, MIDI mappings are fixed. Like I wrote, the mod wheel controls the preset slider, and you can use channel volume to control output level.
We are thinking about improving MIDI mapping, and whatever we come up with is likely to feature something like MIDI learn, though I'd rather also leave a few surprises!
Hi @jovansystem, any idea if and when you will be updating Audiobus? Couldn't find a contact email on your website.
just curious if Modal Pro is still available? I thought I had collected every modular synth on iOS until I just watched one of Doug’s modular roundup videos and immediately looked to buy it, but I get the message “not available on the U.S. store”
I’d really love to try it out if there are any plans to bring it back.. Thanks.
It'll be in your purchases if you already have it. If not I think it's all gone.
