Theyre all kinda the same. Maybe @tahiche will stear you clear of some.
Personally id recommend something with a cable ratherr than something that attaches directly to the ipad. Makes it a little easier to adjust angles of the ipad without having to make sure all of your cables arent gonna pull/disconnect the hub
Agreed. You def don't want one of those that just hangs on the iPad by the USB-C connector. The iPad connector is not made to take the weight. In another thread, someone posted a hub that clips on the top corner of the iPad, but connects by cable, so the gizmo is not dragging on the iPad.
Edit: This is the one I meant. Believe they have different models.
I use the Kingston Nucleum with my 2021 M1 iPad Pro:
Note: there are 2 USB ports on the HUB and i use the Apple USB-C Audio dongle to get audio out from the hub to where i want it to go if I’m not using an Audio Interface in the setup (as illustrated in this photo)
This conversation comes up every few months. Now that iPad Pro (since 2018) is standard USB or Thunderbolt, it is really up to you to decide which one you want, too many factors for it to be worth taking much general advice from others.
Do you need…
Small and easy to take places?
Cheaper, but lower quality ok?
Need more ports but ok if it is bulky and will just sit on the desk?
Personally I’m looking at this: https://eshop.macsales.com/shop/owc-thunderbolt-dock. Not yet released but it’s thunderbolt 4, so will be able to use external storage at full speeds on the 2021 pro. And it has lots and lots of ports so should last a long time.
If I needed something more basic, I would be looking at an Anker brand hub like this: https://www.amazon.com/Anker-PowerExpand-Ethernet-Delivery-MacBook/dp/B08C9HZ5YT . For headphones, the Apple version usb-c to 3.5mm dongle is what I use. That way I’m not limited to the quality of headphone Jack built into the hub.
I use the Hyperdrive Gen2 12 port.
I gave in and spent the extra money after buying several “cheap” hubs, all of which eventually failed or just didn’t work to begin with.
Haven’t had a single issue since going with this bad boy right here:
https://www.hypershop.com/collections/all/products/hyperdrive-gen2-12-in-1-usb-c-hub
Edit: and it’ll work with any iPad Pro with the USB-C port. Worked perfectly with my 2018 11” pro and now perfectly with my 2021 5th Gen 12.9” M1 1TB.
Yeah, never get a hub which attaches to the sides of your ipad it will cause stress on the port.
I can't believe Apple have approved of these designs, it's like they have no awareness of everyday usage of the devices they make. They just want to profit.
I don't have an ipad with a usb-c port yet. I do have a dell D6000 docking station with usb-c and I'm hoping it works when I upgrade. A quick search says it does seem to work.

Mine is a USB C Laptop Docking Station, 10 in 1 USB C MacBook Adapter Multiport USB C Hub Dell USB C Docking Station 4K HDMI+VGA, 3 USB 3.0, 100W PD, RJ45, SD/TF Card Reader, 3.5mm Audio.
It's connected at all times apart from those when I rarely take the iPad Pro with me on trips, and it's hasn't caused me a single issue (I got my M1 iPad Pro on the day they were released). I use a 30w charger for the pass-through charging to ensure there's enough juice for any USB 3 connections (I have a 128GB Sandisk USB 3 stick drive permanently connected and my Launchpad Pro Mk3). The audio interface is powered so that puts less stress on the hub. And if I want to connect extra USB 3 kit, I connect a second powered USB 3 hub (24W).
Not that I use it much, I love that the hub is also a DAC and has a headphone jack. It will only run at 48k which isn't a problem for jamming on the train and suchlike (when I'm less likely to have an audio interface with me) I can't stand the loss of audio quality you get with Bluetooth so wired headphones are always a must. I also like that it has a Gigabit network connection as I have the house wired up in my main 'man cave' spots as I make use of MIDI over LAN.
The hub is on offer right now on Amazon (UK price £39, down from £59). With luck, Solore is running offers in more than the UK Amazon store.
This one has no jack in but is very decent build quality, reasonably priced and works very well. I know OP wanted one with audio jack but maybe others may benefit if they don’t need audio IO.

After returning a couple to Amazon because I either couldn't get the headphone socket or the charging socket working, this is the one I ultimately ended up with for my 2021 11" M1 iPad Pro:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0816T4NJW/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_ER3RRF4H7J2M35GX4W5X?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
It has external charging, headphone output, USB socket as requested. I also use it with a 90degree USB-C extension cable to reduce stress on the iPad's USB socket
Edit: I don't know whether these sorts of hubs are inherently temperamental, or whether the iPad is to blame, but I was surprised I had to return 2 of these hubs (one being an Anker model which I usually trust) before I finally got one to work. Of course, the extension cable could have also contributed to the problem... but I can confirm my current setup has worked perfectly since launch!
I'm sure Apple do want to profit, but USB-C is not an Apple port so there's no MFI certification, manufacturers don't need Apple's approval for USB-C devices, Apple don't make any money off third party adapters, and Apple's own adapter - the only one they do have design approval over - doesn't attach to the side of your iPad.
Apple are aware of them (and they are sold in Apple stores I believe) but they should be actively informing third party developers to avoid producing these types. Turning a blind eye is effectively the same thing.
@echoopera I have the Nucleum as well but sometimes long for more USB ports (for various controllers, audio midi interface, etc). Wondered if you have that problem and any solutions. I guess I can try a usb hub into one of the two USB ports but not sure how well that would work…
I strictly use the Nucleum when I’m mobile and traveling light. I use a regular usb hub when my iPad is connected to the rest of my gear and use the Apple CCK to communicate with synths, controllers and audio interfaces.
Thanks @echoopera ! So... for at home use it's powered usb hub into the Apple CCK? (sorry if that is obvious just making sure I understand). What hub would that be in your case (if you don't mind saying)? Thanks again!

Yep. I just use an Anker Hub...this one:
https://www.amazon.com/Anker-PowerIQ-Charging-MacBook-Surface/dp/B00VDVCQ84/ref=sr_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=anker+usb+hub&qid=1631040395&sr=8-4
Looking at getting a new M1 iPad does Apple make a CCK that has a power Connection like the lightning CCK 3. I’ve spotted the USB C to USB Adapter but appears not to a power connection to charge the iPad Pro M1 when using it?
I know you can get 3rd party usb hubs but heard a few horror stories of iPads being fried when using them and would only need to connect my powered usb hub to it. All my midi needs are covered by Bluetooth so only really need a usb adaptor to connect my audio interface.
I've got this one...
https://linqbyelements.dk/products/pro-usb-c-10gbps-multiport-hub-with-4k-hdmi-and-card-reader
Got it a lot cheaper when I got my M1 iPadPro...
The extra USB-C port is handy and can also be used for the USB-C -> 3.5mm dongle and it's got an extra USB-PD port for charging, card-reader, HDMI and 2 regular USB3.2 Gen2 ports.
It also supports 4K 60FPS so I'm 'prepared' once iPadOS16 drops
This Apple USB-C Multiport Adapter is the closest to the old Lightning USB-3 CCK. It essentially combines the CCK and the Digital A/V adapter, and includes a USB-C Power Delivery port for charging.
Cheers @samu for the advice was wondering if you recommended a dongle as was aware you just upgraded u iPad. I take it no snags using the dongle so far?
@uncledave cheers I spotted that on the site and wasn’t sure if it powered or not.
So far I’ve had ZERO issues with it!
I use such an ipad case, the price is about $90, but I do not know if there is a place to buy it outside of China
