At The Cailleach Gate
A bit of a departure for me - a track based off multiple slicing, dicing and re-speeding of a single field recording of a squeaky metal gate, which was made for me on location by a friend on the access road to the Ben Cruachan reservoir, atop the highest mountain in the Scottish district of Argyll and Bute.
As it happens my friend is a genuine pagan priestess, who is dedicated to the elemental natural force personified in the Celtic goddess Cailleach, aka Beira, Queen Of Winter. She was on solo pilgrimage to a location nearby associated with the goddess, a dweller in high and lonely places, when she encountered the gate. My friend made the recording and the accompanying photo of the reservoir and gifted both to me to mess around with, for which I am truly grateful.
So, in at least some important senses, this is sacred music.

@Svetlovska love it. Love the backstory. Absolutely put me there.
Great sounds… anywhere in Scotland is good for me… off to Cromarty next week… hope it is as atmospheric as this!
I know the spot well. First went up there about 35 years ago, when my then brother in law worked in the Hydro Power Station dug into the mountain that the reservoir serves.
It’s a stunning place.
Wonderful and evocative soundscape, great stuff.
You’re on a roll, for sure.
@rud, @GeoTony , @duncank @LinearLineman : thanks all for the comments, and the listens. Who knew a squeaky gate could be such fun? My friend is drawn often to such remote and lonely locations by her spiritual questings, and the pictures and accounts she sends me from them always make me want to strap on a backpack and hit the hills myself.
I love the drama of this one
