Yeah, it's annoying that the folder structure isn't easily accessible. The folder that you need to access is called 'categories'. iFunBox still works on Mac, for getting to it. Not an ideal solution, but it can make it happen. Not sure what the best and safest download for that is, but it shouldn't be too hard to find.
I rather like these whale timbres, hewn from Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI) recordings:

If you use a MacOS version that is post iTunes, you still have access to the “iTunes sharing” folder via the Finder.

I restored Animoog files recently via the device (iPhone) in the Finder.
Select Files/Animoog...all internal app folders are then visible -- directly drag and drop.
^ Totally
And, don’t forget the Adventure Kid Timbres.
….,
You don’t need iFunBox, the iTunes sharing folders are accessed from the Finder in MacOS versions that don’t use iTunes
^ Good call.
@espiegel123 - Oh, that's interesting. I don't think the Finder lets you dig around inside of those folders iFunBox style, but I suppose you could copy complete folders over to the Mac, delete the originals on the iPad, make the changes you want and then drop them back in.
To address the OP's question about using your own samples: Yes, but you have to prep them as compatible wavetables. The format is 44.1k/16 bit, 1024 samples per wave and 16 waves per timbre. With a bit of planning, you can arrange the whole 8 x 16 space.
Will mention the Luftrum presets here, just in case anybody missed them and wants them. It's a pro pack that went free. They stuck with the factory timbres, I think (it's been a while):

I dont have a modern OS on my Macs but everything that I have read indicates that all the folders available via iTunes sharing are available through the Finder. That is all that is needed for Animoog. Yes, iFunbox or iMazing provide access to other folders, too...but those aren't relevant to situations that were previously handled via iTunes sharing.
"Directly drag and drop" is a bit vague. In the case of both the "Adventure Kid" and "MSL" presets, there are a whole lot of .WAV files and presets and it is absolutely not clear where these things should be placed accessing the iOS device through a Mac desktop.
And it's especially troubling because beyond the top level files, visibility inside folders is not possible with Animoog.
Does anyone know which AdventureKid and which MSL folders go where in the available visible folder structure? Obviously, "presets" in the folders should be placed into the Presets in Animoog... but what about those thousands of WAV files?
For Animoog, I don't think it's possible, because you need to see the folder structure within the app.
It would be possible if @MoogMusicInc added basic Files.app support for Animoog to make its Document folder visible.
Wouldn't that be nice?
yess! or what about Animoog 2 AUv3? 😃
The workaround is to drag the folders onto your computer and change the contents as desired and drag back to the Animoog folder of the iDevice. You can see all the nested directories and files once you've copied over to the Mac.
First, back up everything. Drag the entire contents of that Animoog folder over to your Mac and be sure that it all shows up (these transfers can go slowly).
On your Mac: Look inside the local copy of the 'categories' folder and see how it's all organised. Add new folders for your new timbres. You can do the same thing with presets.
When you're satisfied that everything's safely backed up and as it should be, go back to the iPad Animoog folder and delete the entire 'categories' folder as it was. Presets too, if you're adding any. It might take a few moments for these folders to disappear from the iPad.
After they've gone, drag over their replacements and wait for them to show up.
Back up everything else on your iPad. You're plugged in. It's a good time to do this and you might be glad you did.
Reboot Animoog and marvel, explore, succeed.
That was very good advice. Thank you.
I just want to update this thread…. Files support has been added. The easiest way to add timbres or patches is to just make a zip file of an entire folder and share it to Animoog Z. You can do this with your entire Animoog folder from the old version if you want. All of the timbres will be categorized with the tags they have. So the adventure kid waveforms will have a ton of different tags. This works pretty well for me hopefully helps someone else too!
Awesomeness. I’ve been so lazy in getting everything over to z
