@flo26 kindly took some lyrics of mine and improvised a new tune to what I wrote fifty years ago. After hearing him sing soulful cowboy type stuff I thought it would be an interesting experiment, which it turned out to be.

I think Flo could easily put together an album of cowboy classics. His versatile and, at times, mournful voice and spare guitar playing really creates the haunting experience of loss and betrayal so often evoked in songs of the old West.

There are some mispronunciations, but who cares. “Unguentine” is a word most Americans would have a problem with! I admire his range of genre and willingness to push the envelope. Have a listen...

@LinearLineman can you post the lyrics? I missed “Unguentine”... which refers to a topical disinfectant creme, I believe. Reading lyrics often helps me because I rarely hear them as sentences when they are sung.

Unguentine is an over-the-counter topical antiseptic ointment produced by Lee Pharmaceuticals. It was introduced in 1893 as the first antiseptic surgical dressing ointment by Norwich Pharmaceuticals, who later brought Pepto Bismol to market.

It is used for treating the pain of minor burns, poison ivy, poison oak, itching, minor skin wounds and insect bites.[1] Its active ingredients are camphor (3%), phenol (2.5%), tannic acid (2.2%) and zinc oxide (6.6%).

Thanks for the lovely responses, guys. I certainly agree. It took me a few listens to get my own melody out of my head (I have carried it around for fifty years, lol). Then I could hear the spot on nature of @flo26 ’s version, and saw it, as @Wrlds2ndBstGeoshredr said, a true “cowboy epic”. Great musicianship, Flo!
