JamUp iPad & iPhone iOS has zero audio and the power meter on top right of screen is not moving.

This is not an Audiobus issue because I've been able to reproduce it without using Audiobus but I badly could use any help as Positive Grid is not writing me back over this long weekend like they usually do. So I can't record my guitar.

and it's not even JamUp specific I better add. I was able to reproduce it by setting up my guitar to play in GarageBand without Audiobus (as well as with). Same guitar same cord same earphones.

I keep thinking it's a JamUp issue since that's where I play my guitar... But I got no power in GarageBand either. Positive grid said that power meter is important but never finished. Frustrating. They're usually great and I highly recommend JamUp. Sounds the best I've heard if don't know yet.

In JamUp what is weird besides that usually the power meter is always on is that if I unplug my Guitar Jack 2 which connects me to the iPad or iPhone I will undoubtedly hear lots of feedback. All sorts of horrific noise letting me know at least the app is alive. Right now it doesn't matter if I'm plugged into my ipad or not... There's zero feedback. Like this has nothing to do with my guitar nor my cord. But then what is it also happening when I try to plug in and play in GarageBand? No audio there. Otherwise my earphone and equipment are all working fine.
I'm not a technical guy as it is. Any assistance is very appreciated.

  • "Will GuitarJack Model 2 iOS interface allow me to adjust the input level?
GuitarJack Model 2 allows you to adjust the analog input level for 60 dB of analog input gain (72 dB with the 12 dB pad) controlled with the GuitarJack control panel, located under Song Tools in FourTrack, GuitarTone, StudioTrack, and Taylor EQ. Observe the metering in the GuitarJack Model 2 Song Tool to prevent clipping and set gain level appropriately."

    Does that help?

  • Also:

"GuitarJack Model 2 is compatible with many third party recording apps, guitar tuners, and audio effects apps, like Apple's GarageBand, even if they do not have a GuitarJack Model 2 control panel. To change modes or set levels of GuitarJack Model 2 for use with third party apps, configure the settings using an app with the GuitarJack Model 2 control panel (like GuitarTone), then quit to launch the third party app. GuitarJack Model 2 will retain the current settings and levels even when the iOS device goes to sleep or GuitarJack Model 2 is disconnected."

  • I'm not sure what you mean by power meter, nor do I have guitar jack. However, on the apogee one, which has an xlr assigned to input 1 and a 1/4" assigned to input 2, you have to assign jamup to use the right channel ( input 2) for input to work. Is it at all possible that in both jamup and GarageBand you have it set to use the right channel (gb does this as well), and your guitar jack is seen as "left channel?" Just a thought.
The other thought us perhaps in your iPad settings neither app is allowed access to the microphone? I think that's in privacy settings and in ios7 you need to allow access to the microphone for any audio input to work, not just the mic on the iOS device. Strangely named perhaps but that is part of the sandboxing of apps I believe.

    Hopefully that was helpful.

  • Hey guys. I'm VERY appreciative. But I'm not sure I explained very well because especially the first commenter was talking of things over my head lol. And this I don't think they are relavent. I blame myself. I have a couple of pieces of info and this time I will list them clearly. Sorry. Thx

1 whatever app on iPad or iphone I use with my guitar jack 2 has suddenly for no reason stopped registering power. As if my cord was unplugged. Or broke. But none of my equipment do I scarcely move. Just to plug into ipad. Hard to believe it's broke.

    2) what is a power meter. In JamUp specifically but GarageBand also has a meter. They both register that your guitar is plugged in and hooked up correct. Even if u don't strum the power meter is moving because it still picks up noise. A) JamUp asked about this meter but never said why. My power meters in every app with or without Audiobus is zero and not picking me up. So it's not a JamUp issue B) although in JamUp and I assume in every guitar app when my guitar jack falls out (because my ipad made after guitar jack. Not perfect fit. But it does work fine) I get Tons TONS of loud feedback from my external speaker. NOW when I have no cord plugged into iPad I still don't get any feedback. So ths must mean it ISNT my guitar jack nor my cord. Or am I wrong?

Anything else? That's the main stuff. THANK YOU FOR COMING TO MY RESCUE whether we figure it out or not. I have plenty of messages into postive grid of JamUp (cuz I forgot and thought THEY made my guitar jack LOL. I'm sure they think I'm nuts) and also Sonoma Wireworks who I looked up does make my guitar jack.

Side note. If u have never used JamUp it sounds like the real thing. Every amp and effect is badass. So real I based my decision on my next amp, an Orange crush by Orange amps soley off the app's interpretation. I'll return it if it's not the shit. But then I found my favorite songwriter if today has one. I was feeling good. And guitar jack is heavy duty. I recommend it. I can't imagine it's broke. I think positive grid told me that to get rid of me. Unfortunately for them like I said I forgot that they weren't the makers. LOL
    sorry to ramble. Peace

  • Power as in electricity? Or do you mean power as in a meter showing you that audio is coming in? That will make a big difference to your meaning. Again, check to see if guitar jack has access to the microphone? It's in your settings, I think under privacy. It doesn't make sense to call it microphone access, but it is called that. If guitar jack has an app (like apogee does for their interfaces) maybe that's not allowed access to the microphone, meaning it can't connect with core audio. At least that's my first guess. I don't know the guitar jack at all, so just going by some logical connections to other experiences.

The feedback sounds like your mic is on and then recording what's coming out of Jamup, causing instant feedback. That has happened to me as well. If I understood correctly, this happens when guitar jack falls out? That would then set the microphone on the ipad as the input in Jamup.

  • You can see the microphone access permissions in Settings app > Privacy > Microphone, yep. Did you update iOS or any of your audio apps right before you experienced this problem? Maybe an update broke something.

I have a few ideas but I'm sure you've tried them already:

・Recently I couldn't hear anything from JamUp because I had accidentially turned the master volume slider in the top right all the way down. I didn't even know there was a slider there! Have you made sure it's turned up?

・Have you tested your guitar, cables, and speakers externally to make sure it's a problem with the Guitar Jack 2 and not another piece of your signal chain?

・Are you using JamUp Pro or the free JamUp? If you have Pro installed already, maybe you could download JamUp free and see if you get the same issue from a fresh install of the app.

Again, I'm sure these suggestions are really obvious, but I hope you get it resolved! Keep us updated, good luck :)

  • The OP said it's not just Jamup that's affected and I don't think the he can record from the built in mic, either.
I'd recommend investigating it using just the mic and any simple free audio recorder available for download. Everything else is confusing the issue.
