I've not encountered this error in ages and I guess it could partially be the way I usually install apps...
...I always close all apps before installing any new apps or app-updates and then launch the stand-alone app first.

Good tip 👍 I will try to remember to close all apps the next time I install and update apps 😊

    It's been working for me...
...my reasoning behind this is that apps on launch get a cached copy of AUv3/Extension list and when the list is updated in the background the app keeps on using the 'cached' list and since the cache is flushed/updated when installing apps the previously cached list is 'out dated'. (I don't know if developers have a way to monitor changes to the AUv3 cache or what ever it's called).

We do. The system sends a notification when the AUv3/IAA list was updated, that host apps can (and does) listen to. So the problem seems iOS sometimes breaks this list and makes it appear empty.

Aum engine cut out. With a message to do with backround apps or magnetic cases ( from ios 14.5 ) onwards. What is all that about. Hope it isnt because of ipad stands.

Some ipad models have a problem with some magnetic cases, which interrupts the audio session due to some magnetic sensor in the motion co-processor. So if you have this problem, try getting rid of any magnets near the device. It's not related to AUM or any other specific app, it's an iOS/hardware/firmware issue.

Might need background audio sometimes also.

    What do you mean?

Not using a case but stands for ipad. Just noticed after upgrading to ios15.

Background audio needed for other apps that route to another ipad /aum. Were this part of the message or can background audio be ok?

Were just sampling in aum. Then sending audio to djplayerpro on same ipad. Ipad were not connected to audio4c via usb but through decks soundcard and then to line in of audio4c. Which then ports to another ipad for the audio. Means background audio were on and just on usual stand but will see if it happens again. Background audio is important at the mo because it means I can port apps that cant be hosted in aum but to another aum.

I don't think background audio has anything to do with it. The problem seems to affect any music app with recording abilities (so not simple music/media players etc), regardless if they are running in the foreground or background.

There are of course also other events that will interrupt the audio session, for example incoming facetime call, etc.

    Should be ok though.

  • The problem with ghost MIDI ports, it has been finally fixed in iOS 15.3. I updated yesterday, and after 24 hours, none of the usual suspects has appeared again.

I think you may have spoken too soon. I still see these ports (StreamByter and MidiFire in my case), with both iPadOS 15.3 and 15.3.1. It takes a while for them to appear following any restart. I do believe this is something for the app devs to fix.

Have you tried to restart your iPad, or manually open and then closing the problematic apps to kill the ports?

The problematic port for me was the one created by Spliqs, and since I updated, this is no longer appearing. Previously to this update, it will appear in the first couple of hours after a reboot.

Crossing my fingers, this is the most annoying thing that I have experimented after a year using iOS.

Sure, I can kill them by opening the apps, but they come back. Doesn't bother me anyway, just a bit strange.

  • @uncledave : Three days, and the port hasn't appeared again.

By looking at my Spliqs configuration, in the system preferences, I deactivated the option to update in the background.

And in the Siri menu, I deactivated the option learning from this app.

Can you try to deactivate these two options in the configuration of your problematic apps, to see if it makes any difference with iOS 15.3.1?

Already done, long since. ALL Siri options are disabled for ALL apps. Don't like it, don't want it, don't use it. Background update only enabled for 3 apps. Thanks for trying.
