Thanks, I'll have a tinker.
Gotta say I was sweating bullets on this one!
Soundmaster. I love it. It takes a little work to get squeaky clean tones, and it's not exactly old-school Fender tone - a little more modern sounding, but it is just sooo sweet and expressive. It's my main go-to.
Cali Reverb if you need really good clean tones to full-on roar. Plus the built-in reverb is handy. AC voice to cover all British territory. And now Blackice for bass.
That covers every need I'll ever have.
@wim 👍
OK, I bought the Soundmaster. I also got a Mooer Radar today, so I’m going to go head to head between hardware and software modeling. I like both, but it’s usually easier to just switch on a pedalboard.
To me the most versatile of the amps is the BG Xtasy, it can do Fender-ish crystal clean to edge of breakup to super-distorted mayhem and lots in between. If it had been available when I first started getting amp sims, I probably would have been happy to end there.
I have the BG Xtasy, Soundmaster, and Crank 2. No claims to spending exhaustive time with all three, but the Xtasy is the easiest to like so far.
just a quick wow for the PSA1000 "Andy Cappellato Instant Vintager" preset into the BG Xtasy clean CH1... 8^O loved the Xtasy clean channel before. the PSA1000 takes it to another level. gives the clean tone amazing definition and weight, yet stays quite transparent. just took me away for a bit playing... enjoy!
In the end, I went for the PSA1000, BG Xtasy, Blackice and Cali reverb (for cleaner tones) and couldn't be happier. I tend towards a hybrid of jazz, funk, ska and dub, and have found in my initial tinkering that the Nembrini stuff really comes alive with the Echoplex tape delay and Saturation X in MixBox. That provides a heavier Parliament/Funkadelic vibe when using Zeeon to provide an expressive guitar-like timbre. It's a heavy chain on the CPU but worth it (Zeeon is two-thirds of the CPU hit).
That preset is not in the jr version; would you mind screenshotting!? The Andy Cappellato GTR Reamp is is very rich, but you've got me wondering.
Moved to proper thread
here you go. but it may not help much. that preset uses the"analog link" feature which is unique to the Sr version. without it the preset has less low end & does not have the same impact. those randomized component tolerances seem to be quite significant here.
It's nice and woolly. Thank you! Are there many more guitar presets?
just a handful in the factory presets. be sure to check out this thread which has factory presets from the SansAmp PSA-1 hardware, including quite a few guitar & bass presets, for both sr & jr,
whoa
So if get the PSA1000, could I just use that and an IR app in my AUM signal chain? That is, no amp.
Not saying I want to stop using all the Nembrini apps I just spent money for, but a PSA1000 / Impulse Response option could offer some flexibility.
Thx, Joe
That is a preamp simulator. Whether that will provide a sound you like or not will depend on your preferences. It won’t sound the same as an amp simulator, though — as the power amp has a distinct influence on the sound and the PSA1000 isn’t a power amp. And cabinet IRs don’t supply what a power amp does either.
There are people that like preamp to ”tap “ and those that don’t.
Yeah, that the PSA1000 is a preamp does really make a big difference. It reminds me of my SIB Overdrive pedal with more parameters. This is one of the best iOS apps ever in my opinion. But don’t think of it as an amp replacement. It’s more of a tone/overdrive thing.
Thx.
Maybe we need an iOS guitar power amp-only sim.
Joe
There probably isn't much financial incentive -- most guitar amps have a preamp and power-amp section -- which is what they model. The PSA1000 models a well-known standalone preamp which has typically been used in studios in between an instrument and mixing board rather than between an instrument and pre-ampless poweramp and cab. (I don't doubt that someone does that -- but it isn't super common).
Moore’s GE Labs has separate amp and pre-amp options. That would be an excellent place to start, @joegrant413

Thanks!
Big assumption on my part is you always have to have a preamp, poweramp, and cab for guitar sound. But it’s dawning on me now you’re saying that doesn’t have to be true.
It depends on the sound you are after. There are many different ways that guitars have been recorded.
It can be worth reading up on how your favorite guitar sounds were recorded.
Hell, doesn’t even have to be a guitar plugin. You can send a guitar through any distortion and/or any other FX. Some favorites of mine are Audio Damage Grind, Shaper 2, and if I’m really going for different, Frekvens.
There are no rules unless you’re specifically trying to achieve a particular tone.

Winter is coming…
My heart literally skips a beat every time this thread gets refreshed.
Wasn't there another bass amp being developed?
What are your thought on it, @JoyceRoadStudios?
