I'm dragging the MIDI about the screen but can't figure out how to drop it somewhere else...
slip me a clue. Has anyone got an AUv3 instance to send MIDI? I like the compositions and
would like to get the MIDI out to try it for motifs in StaffPad.

Or you can tap and hold the midi file, press home button and open another app ( in this example AUM and LK) and then drop the midi file in LK:

wow, @White where are You from? :) Do You know list of countries that the app is available? Someone said that it is available in US store

Hope this appears in the UK store
    Looks alright

I found this press release from Sony where it says Flow Machines will be released in Europe too:

It can be loaded as an Audio unit midi processor in AUM:

Have you figured out how to route the MIDI data generated by Flow Machines Audio Unit MIDI processor to an AUM audio channel and/or another app?

No, I think the audio unit is broken or unfinished, because it doesn't seem to have midi out.

So I'm using the standalone app and dragging the generated midi from it and into LK in AUM, it works fine 😊

My guess is that AI will consume all this AI generated content.

Soooooo then it's just going to get better and better as it trains on itself?!

  • Version 1.04 is out:

    New Features/Enhancements

    • Added support for iPadOS 15.1.
    • Added support for EDM tones in addition to current General MIDI tones.
    • Added support for PUSH notification form our service.
    • Other UI improvements
    • Changed the label name of the "MP3" to "Sample track".
    • Notification is shown during server maintenance.
    • The compose parameter is set to default when Style Palette is selected.
      Stability/Reliability

    • Fixes an issue where playback in background.

    • Fixes an error in the minor key in Key/Scale.
    • Fixed an issue the playback start timing between MIDI and sample track.
    • Fixed an issue CG sometimes did not work.

I don't think there's anything necessarily wrong with the emergence of new technologies, but who's going to listen to all of this algorithmically-generated music? I'd rather listen to the Velvet Underground.

    What's next? The algorithmic novel?
    https://jamesreasoner.blogspot.com/2012/02/how-to-write-pulp-western-ben-haas.html

I think you're underestimating the fast advance of technology and overestimating the "good sense" of ordinary Joes a bit. Don't get me wrong, I'm with you when it comes to the rite of passage that any good musicians must pass. I teach composition, theory, ear training in colleges, and I value musicianship above all else, but you can't escape the tech. Yes, it looks like it can only help the less-trained songwriters now, but that's due to its algorithm. Whenever they have a good team of composers, songwriters behind it (and I don't mean "famous", I mean those who really know the mechanic, statistic, probability, with great musicianship), feeding it the right algorithm, then it will be much better. Music is art, yes, and there will always be parts that resist any analysis, sort of like, "there's nothing here that we can't explain, but why is it so beautiful??" But the other parts, like there are very few examples of V-IV or V-ii progression in the music from the 17th to 19th century but many examples in 20th-century pop/rock/blues music. This can be reduced to statistics and mathematics. And here's where this type of program comes in. And you know what, to my dismay, many regular folks won't hear the differences. They have not been trained to distinguish the so-so from the best.

So, my reaction is more like a resigned acceptance that this type of program will be here to stay. My take is that, if it can help untrained persons to create some so-so music, certainly in the hand of well-trained musicians, they can be even more useful. Like it or not, I feel the role of professional musicians in the future will be less of virtuosos or skillful craftsmen but more of an aesthetic selector. The machine-learning tool provides numerous possibilities and they select the best example, using their well-trained ear.

When I first heard of Flow Machines, I searched for everything related to it. I have no tech mind, so I have no hope to know how exactly it works, but from reading, it seems like the premises are sound, in a scientific part of music, and they try to use statistics of relevant data to create the program. I don't see any demo download etc., and I just saw it here for the first time that it's available now. Of course, I can't download shit from the App Store in my country, so can't try it anyway. Would appreciate any who can let us know more how good/bad it is, what you feel wrong with it, etc. 👍

  • Updated.. still no midi out Auv3.

This app is garbage. It’s a waste of code IMHO.

  • Here’s a nice litlle A.I. written short for your enjoyment everyone:

  • Thank you very much for the heads-up!

Available in the Fench app store :)

  • Still no AU midi out ! Downloaded and deleted!

  • Once you register your account, this requires a working internet connection to function?

Just asking, before I give my data to Sony.

People probably complained about drum machines and sequencers when they were first introduced. Noone has to use it if they don't like the idea!

This afternoon I went for a walk and was listening to a radio program (from the 1990s) about the famous record producer Glyn Johns and he was moaning about there being too many gadgets and new equipment in the studio. He was saying that 24 track is too much and 16 should be the maximum (I think Tony Visconti said the same thing). His point was all the hi tech stuff draws out the recording sessions from weeks to months.

Not sure what he would think about all the toys available now. I guess today you can do 90% of stuff at home on your computer even before you go near a real studio - if you go near one at all.

Limitations help artists focus and be more productive with what they have. I’ve experienced this my whole life.

  • No midi in the AUV3. Might be interesting eventually, but not now. Piano Motifs pees all over it.
