Bo's video last night inspired me to do a track today on the 404:
Yup. So good.
Looks like a fab update. Shame the lead time on these is so long to get hold of one. Weird as Akai seem to be able to push their range of products out to the stores no problem in the UK at least last I looked. Maybe the have more chips than Roland !
Akai is using older tech though. Fabulous tech, but the keys is using the same stuff from the live and x.
Been compiling my SP404mk2 tracks here if you'd like to give them a listen:
Sounding awesome!!!
I have a question before getting G.A.S about this SP-404.
SP-404 helps you in your iPad workflow now? how do you feel it now? more easy to "concrete" tracks? Do you feel it as a "fluid workflow" for you now?
Thanks
Thank you for listening.
The workflow is an interesting one. Since it’s so easy to sample on the 404 from any source the iPad becomes another sound source in my music making. I really enjoy the process of moving between the 404 and the iPad. It feels very organic and fluid for the way i like to work.
The pair together allows me to sketch and build up and deconstruct my tracks in a way that i haven’t done before. It really feels like the perfect sampler for the way i work with the iPad.
Bumping because I can’t seem to find the answer anywhere else: can someone explain the difference between the "1+2" and "3+4" outputs to the SP-404 that show up when it’s connected by USB? I presume that 1+2 go to the inputs and 3+4 are for monitoring only, but if someone could confirm that without my having to do a bunch of experimentation, that’d be swell.
for those working with an SP and an iPad: I made a custom TouchOSC layout: check out my sloppy performance here:
I just got mine a couple of days ago. I also couldn't resist, and am selling my OP-Z to fund the purchase. It just didn't click with me in the end. It turns out that sampling is my main ambient process, not sequencing. I'm very happy with the SP-404 MkII, and it feels like it could be a long and happy marriage.
This has been another key inspiration for me, to sample into the SP404 from my iPad. I still use Koala, but mostly on my iPhone as a pocket sampler for sketching out ideas. There is something so solid about the whole SP-404 thing, the pads and buttons, and the knobs. Loving it. I always wondered if I would venture into hardware, and here I am.
