koala sampler question
Hi all,
Is it possible to launch a sequence make it start after the previous sequence has ended?
When I press a sequence in Koala it will play the sequence immediately instead of letting the previous sequence finish before starting.
Thanks
Comments
thank you
If you keep your sequences at the same number of bars then switching is a bit more predictable
@elf_audio I believe this as a common use case. Would you consider implementing this? I just want the current sequence to finish before the next sequence starts and I don't want to need to do it just in time.
Thanks
thanks, i hope @elf_audio could implement this though.
Is it possible to trigger a sequence from external midi source (note cc, pc)?
It’s one of my big requests in the next iap as well as a global play/stop button on each window.
@elf_audio - please ensure all feature requests are IAPs. I (we?) want to ensure you’re rewarded financially for any work you undertake implementing our requests.
How do you do that? I can’t see sequences revealed to the host / available for mapping in AUM or Drambo.
Got it, thanks!
You can drag individual tracks. The current one will finish before the next one starts.
The year is 2103. Koala Sampler is on its 1,200th iAP update, the Cyborg Christ Returned Infinite Samurai option. The app is now worth 37,000,000 USD, putting it just above bitcoin and making it the new global standard currency. @elf_audio has transferred their consciousness into the app and is now the leader of a group of rebels who are standing against the violent leaders of the one world gov't, BehringerIkMultimedia. Long term holders of Koala are immune to the BehringerIkMultimedia GAS attacks sweeping the world. The power is in our hands, we must act quickly.
Sorry humanity... I’ll likely choose affordable hw vs sw every time. But sw makes sense in many aspects so we can still be friends
@0tolerance4silence I do like HW over software for reliability and setup. most HW are designed for a function or 2 and it is what it is. SW can make you go down rabbit holes(sometimes to a place you never thought of) or chasing the age old question "Why is this not working" with a possibility of a 1000 answers.
That being said, if @elf_audio could package Koala into a stand alone unit similar to the new 404 MK2. and charge half the price, I am sure it wold give Roland a run for its money. I think it would be awesome to have something like a Zoom H4n Pro with Koala integrated into it. Maybe with USB/MIDI host abilities to hook up whatever controller you wanted.
I guess we do have that with our iPhones as long as we have the right dongle.
I actually enjoy the abrupt sequence changes. Makes for some interesting arrangements. But I could see toggling the option to complete a sequence or immediately changing it on and off.
+1
The immediate switching is nice but doesn't work out well for all situations. I would love to have sequence quantize as an option, or at least change on next bar or something. Instant sequence changes are tough when you're playing a guitar.
One solution is to let lk sequence koala but I would rather use koala only since it already has a sequencer
Same. When I'm in Koala I don't like jump out to anything else. It has just the right creative zone. I think sequence quantize is the only thing I can say that is really missing for my purposes.
I personally love the instant pattern switching as it allows for easy mashup of pattern contents and switching patterns doesn't affect the playback of one-shots...
...the next obvious request related to synced pattern switching is live cueing of multiple patterns.
I'm quite sure some kind of song-mode is in the works...
A personal requests from me is to be able to view the pads and effects at the same time which would simplify re-sampling of sounds using the built-in Koala effects. And well the transport controls should be visible at all times.
Other nice to have things would be to swap samples on pads to make it easier to re-arrange and move the pads around.
And for the 'Auto Chop' to select the first pad when the pads are populated with the option to use the source pad as the first slice... (Or better yet, keep the slices on one pad and use the chromatic keyboard to trigger them slices).
But I trust @elf_audio knows what to do in order to preserve the fun and ease of use on top of all things...
...too much feature creep would just complicate things.
I can’t work out if you want @elf_audio to work for us for free or not with that? 🤷♂️
@attakk of course not, i was just writing a silly fan fiction. I buy every IAP just to support, regardless if i use it or not.
I've come around a little from the need to quantize pattern switching for the same reason @samu mentioned above. Also, because you can have so many patterns its easy enough to keep them to one bar.
This movie needs to be directed by cyborg Michael Bay 🤣
Yeah, and it's easy to merge patterns to create super long patterns...
...just drag one pattern on top of the other to get some options.
But yeah, I get that being able to cue both pads and patterns into a playback cue could be a handy addition...
...and once the cue is playing play with the other pads on top of that.
On top of that I'm quite sure Mr. Elf has some nice ideas cooking as well
Does anyone know what the deal is with audio quality when importing from video?
It’s a great, fast way to get samples in but what’s being lost in terms of quality if anything?
Does a screen recording take on the quality of what it’s from (YouTube, Spotify etc.)? Does it add another conversion process or have its own setting regardless?
Is it best avoided if you want highest quality audio from your source?
Thanks!
Triggering patterns with loops....
One issue I have noticed with the instant pattern change is that it's not great if you are using long notes to trigger looped (stretched) samples because changing to a new pattern mid cycle means the loop is not triggered until the next pattern cycle.
I guess it would be difficult to trigger a loop halfway thru a pattern, but interested to hear if anybody has some creative ways of triggering patterns with loops samples ?
I like this Koala and I like fiddling with its effects. I would REALLY like to be able to bake the effects into a specific sample and be able to hear it in the sequence without having to 'record/play it live'/export/reimport etc I don't think there's a way to do it, but I was wondering if anyone knows if the removed 'record' button might yet make a re-appearance?
You can resample anything to a new pad, which bakes in FX. Tap one of the monitor buttons to choose resample as your source.
