I’m in the market for a new iPad but I want the “11. I had the first Gen 12.9 till it bent and bricked. No thanks . As @MobileMusic so famously said , “Not portable “
Comments
Not in Canada.
Smaller and widescreen is what is most ideal and comfortable and hence more portable and convenient with a better UX. iPad Pro 11" (or iPad Air 10.9") meets both of those expectations.
Even 12" may be a bit too big (if and when Apple launches this size and ditches the 11" Pro).
Why would they ditch the ‘11 though? It’s a perfect size , no?
What do you think of the mini 6?
Not feeling the Air so much. I like the idea of having better speakers and mics.
The Mini 6 is great (it's my mobile device) but I also have a 12.9in M1 Pro, which rarely leaves the house. The Mini 6 is a bit cramped if it's your solus device. If you're looking to save money the 11in Pro is the better option. Having said that, you do get used to the Mini 6 for creation apps (I mainly use my Mini 6 for media consumption when mobile) and with Pencil 2 compatibility, small buttons and menu's are a doddle. Just be sure not to lose your Apple Pencil 2 when mobile, two of my friends have already lost theirs, and at £100+, that's a little more painful than leaving your Bic biro on the train!
One other thing of note when comparing the Mini vs the Pro. Both RAM and multicore performance are significantly worse. When it comes to music apps there's only Cubasis and Dorico that offer multicore advantages right now, so that mightn't be important to you. And the Mini 6 increased its RAM, so for most common music workflows, you'll be fine.
Great synopsis @jonmoore , I’ve pretty much reached those same conclusions . Just started getting into Cubasis .. I’ve gotta check out Dorico .. Thanks ! You might wanna look into something called “Stylus Sling” that keeps your pencil 2 attached snugly to your mini .
There is a big gap between 11” and 12.9” which is 12”. Since there is already a 10.9” Air to fill the 11” gap, they might decide to discontinue 11” if/when they launch 12”. More ideal if they decide to keep the 11” too. Apple has a history of discontinuing iPad mini 7.9”, 9.7”, 10.2”, 10.5”…
Mini will have a special place in our hearts as the Little Wonder. Mini 1 was the only iPad that got most use when I purchased it - it used to go everywhere I went including grocery store, mall, movie theater… I still have it but it is slow after upgrades and has a bit grainy display (not high resolution). Mini 2 had better display.
I bought a brand new 12.9 M1 256gb for less then half the price a few weeks back. It wasn’t a sale, I think it was just a product/price mismatch in the system. But they still sent it out. Arrigato 🙏, I guess?
