"Midnight Caravan" (a Staffpad Joint)
I'm getting faster at making music in StaffPad...
EDIT: 3rd version with attention to the percussion.
Comments
This has an @ScottVanZandt vibe. One of your best tracks for sure. IMO the drums need some work between 0:20 and 1:25 and again at 1:50. But really excellent.
Thanks for providing the precise timings... this has more percussion instruments than anything I have made in staffpad to date. I purchased the Cinesample Percussion library
that adds 53 instruments to the collection of choices.
It's rumored a future update of Staffpad will support audio tracks so I could build project around a Luis Martinez app. Right now I'd have to export music without drums and add
the Lumbeats app in a DAW or AUM to finish the project.
Like most apps, the more you use it... the blemishes are exposed and you develop tricks and
processes to address them via workarounds. I did a search on SoundCloud for projects with Staffpad in the title and found several really excellent composers that have found this IOS gem and are creating amazing work with it. I also monitor a FaceBook group for Staffpad users and there are some there too.
I went back through my SoundCloud catalogue and them are many IOS projects that have ideas and motifs I'd like to use for Staffpad renderings.
EDIT: "drums at 0:20 and 1:25 and again at 1:50". Yes. I made a previous version but the
concert bass drum made the bass so muddy I started working through the 53 percussion options and the "drums" taken as a whole is pathetic but I saved the snapshot to go to bed. I'll fix this before putting this project to rest.
Here's the previous snapshot with the muddy bass drum.
I didn't hear the excessive bass with ear buds but when I used my headphones it drove me crazy. The rule of mastering on flat spectrum devices with even response across the spectrum applies here. I'll stop writing in staffpad with AirPods. If some listens with airpods it probably sounds OK.
Good stuff @McD I’m digging the busy sounding work that starts at 1:39.
Sounds fine through iPhone speakers btw!
Yes, bass is problematic, Great stuff a 1:30. Tambourine drags it down, IMO. Now I’m hearing Sweeney Todd.
Yep, this percussion version is much better. I like the brass riff repeated by piano and mallets. You’re on to something here. More composing with StaffPad!
