Well, I don't mind...
...makes it easier to auto-connect my AirPods and auto-connect to the device I'm actually using
Nor me, for the same reason.
Even if it wasn’t something I wanted, it’s a pretty trivial task to turn it off.
There is one 'setting' that keeps on getting turned on periodically that annoys me, it's been like that since iOS14.
Each Wifi connection has a 'Private Address' toggle which when enabled periodically (sometimes every 5 minutes, sometimes 30 minutes etc.) gives the device a new random MAC address. Even if I've disabled it iOS periodically turns it on without warning, highly annoying!
This can in some cases cause the assigned IP address for the device to change and/or temporarily loose network connection and in some cases refuses to re-connect to the network until wifi is turned off/on again and even then the it's sometimes needed to 'forget' the network and connect to it again or reboot (or manually clear the table) the router to release all the previously allocated addresses.
It also makes it a hassle to control which devices are allowed to connect to the network using MAC filtering, manual configuration does not help...(ie. iOS device complains that the address is already in use by another device).
Thankfully this 'feature' has gotten a bit better lately and the disconnects do not happen as often as they used to...
Cheers!
You can simply turn off the Private Address setting for your home network. I did this when the feature was first introduced, and has never changed with updates (always OTA).
I've done that but the setting sometimes turns on anyway...
...I suspect some kind of bug since I do pass by multiple wifi-networks during a day of which for most I use private address.
When I can't auto-join networks which are MAC filtered I have to check the settings and boom realize iOS has auto-enabled private network address for the network.
When I return to my home network it's sometimes enabled even though I had previously disabled it.
But as long as I know where to look when things don't auto-magically work I'm 'ok' with it...
