Can I Use My Maschine MK1 as A Step Sequencer in Ableton?
I'm trying to use the step sequencer of my Maschine MK1 inside Ableton Live Lite 10 with the right template. Everything works except the step sequencer.
When I press the STEP button on the MK1, nothing happen.
Any idea?
I read that you have to use your MK1 as a plug in, but even though my drivers are installed, I do not see "Maschine MK1" in my list of plug in (under Native Instruments).
Thank you for any help.

Do you have the Maschine Software? I think that might be what they mean by the plugin, I could be wrong. Other than that couldn’t say, I have the software but not the hardware.
Make sense. But I don't have the software. I bought the MK1 used as a controller for Ableton. So if I understand correctly, the step sequencer is not standalone.
Correct. To use it as a step sequencer you need the maschine software. Without it, it is just a dumb midi controller.
You can create a native instrument account, then create a support ticket and tell 'm you bought a second hand controller. Most of the time they will add the software to your account.
I already done that. But they ask me for the box or the paper with the licence of the software. Maybe I can try again? Thanks for the tip.
I tried it again, this time, with the French support. Let's see.
You might want to check out some of the great Max For Live creations. Lots of cool sequencers available, some commercial, some for free.
Like this one which can also import samples and have its controls MIDI mapped to any controller:

Or maybe extend this one to support Maschine Mk1:

Also go to https://maxforlive.com/, hit 'Sequencers' and sort by # of downloads.
Oh wow, I think I love you! Thank you so much!
You're welcome
Ah, such a bummer, it does not work with Ableton Live Lite Thanks anyways
That's a bummer indeed.
One "last resort" is to look for Ableton Live remote scripts. Most of them don't rely on Max.
Try this for a start:

and 3rd party solutions:

I have the template for Ableton Live on my Maschine MK1 and I like it a lot. The only small thing that bothers me is that I don't have the option to use a quick step sequencer. I will continue my research on that. If there is a way to quickly use a sequencer with the Maschine I will be more than happy.
Oh, there's quite a number of options like these, using Ableton's own Python scripting engine:

If it was for my own use, I'd consider getting a Launchpad Mini just for the step sequencer or even an Akai APC Mini (if only for the 64 pads 😊).
