A number of these effects are already available as standalone apps. Anyone want to get a list going?
Yeah I guess subconsciously I was thinking that. Some of this in here almost seems Drambo-like. But as of yet I don’t think you can find this all in one place like you can here.
@Telstar5 You should try Physicles, a free AUv3 MIDI sequencer, which is very similar to Ricochet.
https://apps.apple.com/es/app/physicles/id1409156444
Also, as impressive as these MIDI effects are, with the sequencers included in miRack you will get even more crazy options, with a total of 53 sequencer modules, and more coming with each update. Including one with bouncing balls
But great work from the Bitwig developers! I love its experimental approach to a DAW.
I see the similarities (bouncing particles) but not much musical potential on this one .
@giku_beepstreet …Check this out (4.1) if you get a chance
Got Bitwig on my Win tablet, cost less than an iPad Pro - good to have it to put the two ecosystems into perspective and keep drawing the line between sensible use of iOS vs Windows apps...
Thats an Op-1 sesuencer :-)
.
@rs2000 -Makes sense . I’m gonna buy a new device Black Friday and briefly considered a PC tablet but I’m now leaning toward a new iPad . I can only afford one . Trying to keep it all ios for now .
I am stoked for the 4.1 release. Playing with the beta currently. 💕
4.1 is out!
Hah! I was notified of the beta checks memory unknown days ago 🤣 Happiness!!!
The overall touch experience on the iPad is much better, no question but some Win programs work quite well already.
In fact, touch behavior has become my new criterion when choosing audio apps on Windows 😉
@rs2000 I think you mentioned you were working on a Drambo module combining many midi effects, is that right? Did it end up on patchstorage?
How well do most of the audio apps UI's work? Audio applications tend to cram as much as they can in a UI and feels to me that that's not going to do very well with touch based interactions.
With the possibility that there may be some Arm based Windows tablets coming Windows is looking a bit more interesting.
Sorry, can you be a bit more specific?
I've been working on so many different projects including MIDI, please help me remember 😉
@rs2000 : Are you using a Surface Pro?
It's a totally mixed bag. If you want to make a single app work well, you can usually do so by fine tuning the Windows native zoom settings and some of the DAWs (like Ableton) and VSTi (like U-He or Arturia) support different zoom levels.
Things start to get tricky when you combine different VSTi and each would require a different zoom level - Windows doesn't support per-app zoom levels and there's no "scale plugin window to full screen" feature, at least not with VST2.
For hands-on live performance, apps like
https://oscpilot.com/
and
https://feelyoursound.com/xotopad/
can help a lot.
No, a second hand Lenovo X1 Gen.2.
Not the fastest but under $300 second hand, you get a great display plus a good pen is included, and it's very serviceable (easy to change the internal 500G SSD to a bigger one etc.).
One thing that I don't like so much compared to my iPad 6 is the higher weight (well, it's a larger device anyway) and it can get hot when using CPU demanding apps.
If I had the cash ready, I'd get the fastest tablet available.
Oh ok, good to know. You HAVE to have a desk/laptop though, seeing as you’re an actual developer . I’m still deciding which direction I’ll go before Black Friday. Hopefully everyone will but Drambo come next update and you’ll have your quicker laptop (I’m assuming you’re the developer of Drambo?)…
@Telstar No no no, @giku_beepstreet is the Drambo dev, I'm only in close touch with him regarding some UI, DSP and MIDI aspects.
To be fair, the reason why I got me the X1 tablet was rather to run NI Maschine on it and place it above the MK3 hardware controller. I just got sidetracked by Ableton and the many great synths available on Windows... 😄
As for iPad vs Win vs Mac, with the fairly new M1 CPU architecture things are changing quite a bit on the hardware side. On MacOS it's basically a no-brainer while to me it's not yet clear how soon Windows app developers will build apps that take advantage of M1 powered hardware. Exciting times ahead.
@rs2000 : Thanks for the prompt response . Who knows what lies ahead, indeed?
It was around the time Drambo was adding midi processing modules, I think you mentioned working on a midi fx rack that you planned to post once finished.
