Need MIDI seq app for AUM (Atom 2 vs Nanostudio 2)
Hi,
I need a relatively simple MIDI sequencing app/AU for using in AUM, recording an playing MIDI clips.
Since I do have Nanostudio 2, wonder if Atom 2 will bring anything new to my workflow?
Nano being only IAA brings some complications in the process...
What are pros and cons of using Atom?
Best,
V

I have Atom 2 but LK would be my most preferred AUv3 sequencer by far. Easy to use, supports spontaneous clip launching, supports import of very long MIDI files, has automation editing and a few handy editing functions.
Needs a bit of getting used to but works really well.
Atom2 if you need launching and recording modularity and superflexible undoable non destructive midi post processing. Plus the midi editing is smooth. LK and Helium if you want something in one window.
Atom2 is great. But be aware that it cannot do automation (midi CC, etc) editing, only notes, though it does record automation. It also doesn't do super great for really long clips. It's more focused on looping shorter clips.
LK is great too and can do automation editing. It's not as focused on just being a piano roll as Atom2. Learning curve can be a bit of a tripper-upper since there's no up-to-date manual. But it's worth it. You can try LK for free.
Neither rivals NS2's piano roll IMO, but both are just fine, and the advantage of having them right inside the app is worth it. Helium I don't have so I'm no help there.
Helium is going better and better. Tons of fixes and features added recently. All in one window with 16 tracks, CC automation and very nice song mode similar to BeatHawk’s one (with tracks mutes). I’ve spent good amount of time helping Paul with reports, he’s really a great dev (very fast and listen well IMO). LK is also very nice, but more live performance oriented. But lacks song mode and can crashes, when Helium never has a single time for me. Both are really the best IMO, with responsive devs. Atom 2 is nice too but as mentioned lacks CC automation and has multi instance workflow only. I only bought version 1 also because I know fixes and features don’t come very fast.
This is a track of mine shameless 🔌 but this can be informative of what Helium song mode can do 🙂
