Sampler / Slicer with synchronised slices

I’m looking for a sampler with an option to sync up samples. For example if I had four beats I could cut between them and they’d start/stop from the same position within the sample. As though I had started them all at the same time and I was just jumping between them.

I hope this makes sense! Thanks!

So, basically - if I understand it - you have 4 slices, each set to its own pad, each pad assigned to its own mixer channel, & you trigger all 4 pads at the same time (say by a single midi note that is assigned to all 4 pads) and you want to simply press the mixer channel’s mute/unmute button for each pad you want to hear at that moment?

  • Yes sorta. So - four pads that play four individual samples which have their start times synchronised. Almost as though they were beat matched.

I could do it in a DAW by having four tracks and then soloing them, but I was imagining a touch screen tool which had more sampler related tools.

Assign the same midi note to all 4 pads will mean they will all start at the same time when that midi note is sent, thus your start-time synchronisation requirement is met.

Segments & Koala both have slicing & are multiout, so you would get all of your typical sampler shenanigans and the flexibility in your mixer to mute/unmute whatever you want.

Apologies if I’m missing something here.

  • I I understand you correctly, any sampler with quantization and choke groups should work. How about Beatmaker 3?

  • I forgot what Ableton calls it, but Akai calls it 'legato' playback mode in their Force. Where multiple clips are on one column, and only one clip can play at a time, but with the 'legato' option enabled, switching clips will result in the playhead resuming its location from the last-played clip. Rather than just launching from the start of the clip.

Does LK, Atom 2, or Modstep have this feature? Or any Ableton Live-style clip-based sequencer on iOS? Beatmaker 3 doesn't.

    This sounds like it!

It's a lot of fun. But if the clips have different lengths, there's some head-scratching. At least the clip-switching can be instantaneous or quantized to the nearest 64th, 32nd, etc.

You already know this, and it's been said before:
Workaround would be to slice those 4 clips into many many smaller slices, and put each in one mute group, but that requires MIDI triggering, and more work and planning, versus the optional 'legato' mode which doesn't require MIDI. That's how to do it in Beatmaker 3 and other MPC-style apps that support sample-chopping.

I'm still curious if LK, Atom 2, or Modstep have this 'legato' mode feature. Or any Ableton Live-style clip-based sequencer on iOS. Maybe someone built this in Drambo?

  • I’m very tempted to build it my self which is one reason I ask.. but no point if someone has done it already. It’s part of what made Junglator so great, if anyone remembers that 🙃

  • Glitch breaks or Jamm Pro can do the ‘legato’ thing I think
