Building a mobile electronic music setup... Which interface?
I'm building a tabletop setup that is going to go into a large guitar pedalboard flight case and meant for live performance. The goal is to open a lid, plug in, and go. I'll be purchasing an iPad 4 for this, but I'm having a hard time finding an interface that uses the lightning connection. The Focusrite iTrack looks like it would be perfect, but it's not available for sale get (despite being announced 6 months ago). Ironman looking for something that can handle both audio and midi in. I currently use an Alesis IO dock with my iPad 2, but need something with lightning built in so I can use the power of an iPad 4.

You are a bit ahead of the curve at the moment, shouldn't be long though.
As far as I can tell, all you're looking for is an audio interface into iOS...right? Plug your guitar into a 1/4" jack sorta thing? Apple carries all the adapters you would need for that...3rd party adaptors have some risk associated! There are a number of respectable alternative interfaces out there, but the features vary a lot.
It seems there's a lot to consider with what you're looking for...feel free to PM me if you want to go into detail...I might be able to help.
Don't mean to undermine you @WMWM, but if I understand @2ABatterie correctly, there should be some options.
Not a problem @funjunkie27, you broke me in a while ago .
I took it as he was looking for a lightning interface that charges and has audio/midi. The focusrite itrack he mentioned is not out yet, looking forward to it as I find that company to be great in the price/performance ratio.
I have one that does all that and balances your budget! Well.....not really! If he's looking for all that, I definitely spoke too soon. ;-)
Lol
The iTrack Dock is now available, at least in the UK. Snuck into online stores last week.
No 5-pin MIDI Out, such a shame.
i can show you mine, it uses a behringer uca202, v. good for the price
The Alesis IO Dock does audio and midi... Just no lightning connector.
Behringer istudio 202 does both midi and audio. It also runs off batteries which makes it a cut above the alesis. Someone on this forum successfully used it with ipad mini via 30pin to lightning adapter. Looks like a very good package. I'm tempted myself but I'm worried next ipad will be round ;-)
The 202 does not have a lightning connector though. It pretty much offers the same things as the Alesis
Sorry I've been posting similar comments on two separate threads. Here's the link to a thread with some info.

I just got my audio/USB midi set up working. All battery powered. Will post a video walkthrough shortly.
What about this from Griffin, nice midi connections.

I keep switching between the Griffin Studio connect and the Akai EIE (the red one). I use a guitarcase on a keyboard stand for live/remote use. Works really well. Hope you sort it out alright 2ABatterie.
Right. I don't want to litter threads with the direct link to my video so I'm going to post a link to that thread. I think it is directly related to OP's question as it is wholly battery powered rig. It goes: mic mixer and trigger pad into behringer UCA 202 which alongside Akai MPK Mini and USB power bank goes into the usb hub then CCK into the IPad. It all actually stays lit up even without the power bank which I suspect could be eliminated but I haven't tested that properly.
