How does the Rozeta MIDI TRIG function work in the CELLS module

Greetings. I'm in the process of getting deeper in my use of AUM (initially started back when most of the instrument apps I used were only IAA and basically only used it as an audio mixer so I'm late getting onto AUs and plugins) and one plugin in I'm now working with is the Rozeta Sequencer Suite. I can't seem to figure out the logic behind how the MIDI TRIG function works. I've looked at the Rozeta site manual, watched some of the Rozeta tutorials and searched the forum and have either missed it or not found it. Can anyone point me to a source that explains it or explain it themselves?

In particular I don't understand "MIDI triggers patterns: C1,D1,E1,F1,G1,A1,B1,C2" control in the "MIDI & Control" panel. I had assumed those MIDI notes would trigger patterns 1 to 8 selectively but can't seem to get that to work. Also it seems any MIDI input to the Cells module triggers playback and I wonder if there's a way for it to be more specific, device and channel wise.

I play mostly keyboards but also sax and FWIW what I'm trying to do right now is trigger a single keyboard accompaniment made of a couple of repeating patterns while a take a sax solo.

Thanks!

Pat

  • A couple of things to check:

    1. Did you actually switch MIDI triggers patterns on? There's a toggle switch to the left. It defaults to off.
    2. Octave naming can be different depending on app and hardware. Rozeta octaves follow the same naming as AUM, co C1, D1, etc should work from the AUM keyboard. But other apps may need to be shifted up or down an octave. Try C2,D2 ... or C0,D0 ...

You can use AUM's routing and channel filtering to be more specific about what device and channels control it. Enable input to Rozeta for only the sources you want, then disable channels you don't need. I usually hit None, then enable only the channel I need. Bring these options up with the channel settings.

  • Thanks for the feedback and sorry for the delayed acknowledgment... dealing with floods and mudslides in my neck of the woods. Yes, I see now where the MIDI channel filter settings are. In hadn't realized each side chain plugin had that. So @wim are you referring to the upper left keyboard icon? It seemed that just toggles the on-screen keyboard but is it also acts as a toggle for the MIDI key triggers? I had thought the "MIDI triggers patterns: C1,D1,E1,F1,G1,A1,B1,C2" switch did that. I'm probably missing something but I'm curious why both or what the interaction is?

  • No need to apologize. Sorry, that's a rough situation. Been there back in Southern California after wildfires when I was a kid.

The left keyboard icon isn't part of Rozeta, it's part of AUM and shows for every plugin. It's a shortcut to display the AUM keyboard and automatically route it to the plugin. So, no, it's not a toggle for the key triggers, it's just a way of quickly getting MIDI to the plugin as one way of triggering the patterns. You should be able to trigger pattern changes from the AUM keyboard in this way, so it's a quick way to test.

Looking back at your post now, I think I may have misunderstood the issue. When you say "Also it seems any MIDI input to the Cells module triggers playback" I now guess you mean that when you hit a midi key it triggers a cell? If so, then in order to stop that you need to get out of Record mode. Is the record button at the bottom left of Rozeta red? If so then turn Record off. The button should be grey. Now C1, C2, etc. should trigger pattern changes.

If not, be sure the MIDI triggers patterns switch is on. It defaults to Off. Also, you have to have the AUM transport running for pattern changes to work.

If none of that helps, then a screenshot of your AUM midi routing matrix might help.
