Ok, now some help needed for an app to get that "Clavioline" sound
Think Del Shannon - Runaway.
Found a nice Vox app and it's not bad but I'd like to try and nail it exactly if I can...Got Pure Synth Platinum as well as Sunrizer and Synthmaster One, so maybe (with some guidance) I could create one perhaps???

What a great tune. RIP Del.

Apparently the solo in the original recording was done using Max Crook's homemade Musitron, but others have said it's actually a sax through a leslie! Burton Cummings in that later video above used a Prophet 5.
I've tried to recreate it over the years using a square into an overdrive, heavily EQ'd and excited, with vibrato and filter on the mod wheel, plate reverb, but still haven't nailed it. I think the original (lofi) recording messes with it a bit.
thanks, yes I agree it's tough trying to get a clear sound "image" off the old recording. The Musitron he used was actually a modified keyboard called a clavioline. This clip gives a much better sound

It’s kind of a square wave with some dirt and filtering. Maybe find an app that will let you add some subtle distortion to a square wave the play around with some filtering to get the right character. Might help to run it through an amp emulation to get some of the character of the sound.
In addition to this you’ll want to add a spring reverb that is fairly “springy” or some slapback delay with a few repeats followed by a little reverb.
Definitely something to give it that final polish for sure. Listening to the original again, I think something that’s more of a wave-shaper than overdrive would be better to give it the right character.

Cool! Thanks - I'll give that a try in one of the synths
