Problem with Animoog Z in Cubasis (SOLVED)

Hi all,

I've been out of the iOS music scene for a while, but recently got back into it, and the release of Animoog Z came as a very welcome surprise! However, I am having a problem with it not playing back recorded MIDI in Cubasis (3.3.3, iOS 15.1, 3rd gen 12.9 iPad Pro).

I load the Animoog Z AU3 into a MIDI track, pull up the synth's interface and record some MIDI using the plugin's keyboard. In this part of the process, everything works fine; I hear the audio, and the MIDI records as expected into the Cubasis track. On playback though, I hear no audio whatsoever, and also freezing the track results in an empty audio file.

Am I doing something wrong? I'll admit I do not have a lot of experience using Cubasis, so maybe there is something I am missing? I have restarted my iPad a few times to see if that helped, but no luck.

Thanks,

Dave

  • That’s odd. Just tried doing exactly what you did and it worked fine. Only difference is I’m on an iPhone 12 mini.

  • Well, I've figured out how to fix it, but not sure why it's happening. Something I forgot to mention in my initial post was that the MIDI channel setting for the Animoog track was set to the default 'All' option.

Last night I was playing with Animoog Z standalone using my Seaboard Block as a controller and had set the input channel to 'MPE" in the MIDI settings. I had also turned off the 'Load from Preset' option. In my Cubasis project, I opened the MIDI settings in Animoog and changed the input MIDI channel to channel 1, and the project started playing back as it should. Weirdly, it also plays back correctly after setting MIDI back to MPE during the same session, but the problem reoccurs when restarting Cubasis and loading the project again if the plugin is set to MPE when quitting.

I just wanted to post this in case anyone else has the same issue.

    Cheers,

    Dave

Appreciate you giving it a go, Tim. Turns out it was some MPE weirdness!
