Video...iRing Music Maker with the iRings, Demo and Tutorial

These are a lot of fun to use and will be great fo DJ's and live performance

  • That was a tough assignment trying to play and not block the camera at the same time. What's the advantage of the iRings versus just using your fingers or a stylus on the screen in terms of controlling an app?

  • Good question, I think for live performane and just having fun really, however the ability to control other apps this way is also interesting I think, I will be doing the fx one soon and thats very cool inside Audiobus, and yeah it was a bit awkward trying to keep my hands away from the camera

  • I'm actually more excited about the realisation that 'Korg' spelled backwards is 'grok', which is the only Martian word I know, and is of significance to those who have read Heinlein's 'Stranger in a Strange Land'.

I am trying to figure out the F/x one now as I just got my iRings yesterday... The f/x app only works with certain apps in ab2 or it crashes

My goal with these is to use with my theremin and other apps or maybe analog synth. I figure I am already moving my hands in the air for the theremin perhaps this can add. New dimension

  • What apps crash it, and I'll try it out tomorrow, I'm going to demo the FX App soon

  • Honestly I was rather upset last night when I recieved it as I couldn't get it to work and everything but Sunrizer crashed it. But since I help people on the IK forum I took my own stupid ass advice and rebooted the app. So now it's better. I have to retest all apps again. I have songs to write tonight but will try to get to it.

It's definitely not something easy to use. I mean yeah to just play around with dJ effects it's not hard, but I am trying to use it with so many different things that there is more of a learning curve then I expected. But as I get the hang of it it gets better.

  • If you set your iPad/iPhone up with the irig midi and plug it into the MicroBrute... There is some fun to be had. Howver you have to really get into the midi settings to get some interesting effects. (I bought the iRing fx package effects, but they may only work in AB2 with apps). It helps if you have the MicroBrute sequencer on as you use the line ring for "control change" and then Use the triangle one for pitch wheel, after, punch... Etc...

  • My initial video just showing some of what the iRing can do... more to come. These will be great for sound design!

  • @ShawnLeonhardt

Cool! Looking forward to microbrute + theremin

  • Sounds cool man. The accidental triggering worries me a bit though.

  • I think there is a way, maybe, to keep that from happening. Like the Blueboard these seem to have some very interesting potential. I just have to learn how to use it all. Thee are so many x,y,z, and gestural settings.

The irig midi just controls midi out, so I cannot adjust the brute with the effects. Is there something like the connectivity one that allows for midi and audio control??

  • I see these iRings as incredible new ways for sound designing games and apps... just keep a DAW running and play around and then pull out what I need.

  • Ok... the initial stages of iRing controlling MicroBrute with Moog theremin. Going to take a lot of practice to control it all... but there is potential.

  • Has someone tried to draw the iRings on paper? lol

  • Yes, I have heard chatter on this. But to control the iRing you really need to hold it properly in hand and aim it at the screen. It would be much more difficult to do what is in the video.

And as far as the lol part.... Not to be argumentative or a fuddy duddy... But why try to draw the rings on paper? Or why try to crack software? Or steal anything for that matter? This may seem an extreme argument, but it's not. The iRings are not that expensive. The cost of a proper 24 pack of beer. Just buy them... If you want them.

As a musician who is ever increasingly making my money from music... I truly hope people do not try to take, hack or crack any codes on my stuff. I am up late tonight making patches for a popular software synth. I hope they are paid for.

Actually IK sent me these iRings I am using, from a contest. Plus I bought another pair, to let students use them. It's new, unique, and may just inspire someone to get into this world that we all seem to enjoy.

Sorry for the semi rant... And yes I did write fuddy duddy above.... :)

I thought you needed to register the product in order to switch on the in-app camera. At least that's what I understood from the thesoundtestroom video.

You do, when you get the rings you get a reg code, you have to register the rings with your IK Account or make a new account, then you can put the code in, once its registered it unlocks the rest of the app
