@miguelmarcos: in that case just get a Scarlett, it sounds like it does everything that you wish the itrack did (not device specific, works with a regular computer etc). The only thing they don't do is charge the iPad, but only MFI devices are going to do that, and they are all going to have the lighting connector, if not the dock feature.
The Scarlett was on my list but it has no Midi port. The iTrack does (USB in this case, good enough for me).
Yeah this thing is somewhat impractical. But if your going to go iPad, this is the ticket![:D :D](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/lol.png)

The Scarlett 2i4 has MIDI in/out, not USB though.
In theory you can also get MIDI in via the USB hub, but I can't get that to work. It's either the MIDI keyboard or the audio interface, not both together but other people have reported that it works so I might just be a quirk on my end. The MIDI on the Scarlett itself should work fine AFAIK.
I have an iPad v3 with the 30-pin port and I am hoping to leapfrog the iPad Air with, hopefully, a 12 inch iPad v6 this Fall. I will probably be dissapointed. But if Apple does come out with a larger iPad, the idea of purchasing an audio/MIDI interface that has a fixed-size, slide-in ported dock does not appeal to me. A unit that doubles as an adjustable iPad stand, and lets you plug in a separate (length of choice) Lightning cable appeals to me.
@richardyot Apologies, you're right.
I need USB MIDI. I might look into the USB hub as a solution but it would be so much nicer if it were built in like the iTrack.

I think if Apple come up with a larger ipad it is going to be 11" to mimic their macbook air 11.
Wow all this debate has really opened my eyes to angles I hadn't contemplated.
Heres the latest 'Getting Started with Focusrite itrack dock video'
![](https://img.youtube.com/vi/fO2TH7sBjM8/0.jpg)
Honestly, I think i'll wait now because @bsantoro, @superdom etc reminded me of info I am fully aware of. Consumers are dedicated to Apple's great products yet they're quite inconsiderate when it comes to letting us get value for money, i.e constantly changing connectors...
Actually, with Apples acquisition of 'Beats' I wouldn't be surprised if within 9 months or less they've released a dedicated beats audio dock for Apple's iOS devices. Obviously I may be wrong. But my prediction is based on many observations, including (as far as I can see) that IAA has remained stagnant for the imminent iOS8 release this fall...
Having said that, The Focusrite getting started vid looks kinda tasty & The Griffin HD looks good too, but I wonder what takes these manufacturers so long to release these products?
What say ya'll?
Good point @diversetfb1, it looks that there are a lot of changes and manufacturers are waiting to launch the perfect product.
In my opinion the Griffin HD looks pretty good.
I just wish there was a dock with all the connectors and battery operation like IS202 + lightning bolt.
By the way there is a dry/wet mixer knob on the Behringer IStudio so you can hear the live input or the IPad signal or a mix of both. Latency can occur on certain apps (Vocalive for instance) but you can adjust the latency in the app itself to get it close to real time. Obviously I can't vouch for all apps in this respect. I am a member now on the Behringer newsletter and there is no mention of a lightning IS202. It would probably cost more than the adapter does anyway, so I'm happy with what I've got.
There was somerhing like istudio thunder or something similar with lightning connector they were planning to release, or so I heard.
Has any one been able to connect it to their desktop? I like to control nave and animoog from cubase(desktop).
I dont think you can connect to a computer, the USB is just for core midi devices, anyway here is my first video for it in case you missed the link thread

I just got one of these and it's great, but my Arturia Minilab keyboard only works with it very intermittently. As in, it worked once but I don't know why, and now I can't get it to work again. Has anyone else had any problems? It's working in Doug's video above (it's the bottom keyboard), and it works just fine when connected to the iPad normally (I've tried that again tonight to make sure), so I'm wondering what I did that one time to make it OK. I've tried switching between relative and absolute mode on the Minilab but no dice! I've also tried resetting the iPad and a hard reset (power and home button), but that didn't help.
It's so annoying that the Minilab worked once! (Obviously I'm connecting it to the USB port. It powers just fine, but doesn't play any notes in any synth apps despite the MIDI configuration looking OK, and MIDI learn doesn't recognise it's knobs. But as I said, it worked brilliantly once earlier this evening!)
Some advice would really be appreciated!
@Michael_R_Grant I have intermittent issues also.
I have posted this in other forums. Not sure if it will help you.
I had problems connecting MIDI controllers to the iTrack. Beatstep and OP-1.
Try the following steps.
1: Run either the Novation Launch pad or Launch key apps on the iPad.
2: Make sure power is off to the iTrack.
3: Dock the iPad and connect your controller to the MIDI port.
4: Turn on power to the iTrack
May want to try this a few times if it does not work at first.
Hi all !
Just received the itrack dock.
It's good, lightweight , plasticky but solid enough.
Plugged it in and put my kronos through it. It sounded great, very close to my motu hybrid I'm using at the moment.
Connected the iPad Air, opened up the demo song in auria ,,,,,,:(( stutter, freeze, stutter freeze again, not good. Decided to recorded the kronos on it, recorded well and stability was a lot better. Sound good but not the bass depth of my motu. It can be tweaked though with eq.
It seems to working fine now so happy days.
One concern though is when you place the ipad on to the red pad and connect to the dock, after half an hour recording the iPad Air was very hot, never felt heat like that off my ipad before.
I think it's a design flaw.
Here goes, my tip ! Cut the red pad 1 inch from both sides and put one near the connector and the other one near the right side of the ipad. The air can flow freely through the dock and ipad keeping it a lot cooler.
All in all I think it's a good piece a kit, would be great for mobile recording, as for the switch from PC daw to ipad........hmmm possibly ? It's only £169 so will probably keep it.
Not so sure about importing and exporting the AAF file ?
Try it out, if it's not for you ? Ship it back.
Peace
Got the itrack dock...good points and bad points.
I love the ease of use, and of course the battery charging aspects. I've tried it with a few different digital pianos for MIDI input and they worked fine, my Roland UM-1 interface doesn't work, nor do my Juno-G or SH-201 synths (USB anyway) so looks like I'm looking for a class-compliant midi-usb interface.
Bad things...the knobbiness makes transport a potential issue, but a good bag/case dedicated to it needs to happen for me. The big problem I'm having...
Occasionally my iPad Air crackles, pops, the power light flashes on and off on the dock, and it loses connection with the dock! This has happened during a performance, and nothing was moving the dock, which would be my first assumption. My Air is running 7.1.2...this comes into play when I use my iPad mini (my work ipad). It's running 7.0.4 and has never had an issue in the dock. SO...explore this if you have the option to. Don't upgrade if you're considering. No response from Focusrite support yet.
Sad to report that the Samson Graphite M25 is another keyboard which does not seem to work properly with the iTrack Dock. It looks like it is getting power but is not sending any MIDI via the USB connection (which is the only connection it can make). Line 6 Mobile Keys however works fine.
Apart from that it looks pretty good so far. The form factor is superior to the Griffin StudioConnect, which when you think about it is impractically designed to be used at about eye level. If you have an iPad Mini with the regular cover from Apple you can slot it into the dock without having to unclip it or using the supplied insert. This is a only minor thing but one that nevertheless pleases me.
Anyone have the iTrack Dock and MPC Element, I plan to buy it for plug in usb midi my Element but I want to know if works...

It makes me just sit here in disbelief when I see so many people comment on Apple's decision to change a plug. So much so, that I had to create an account just to comment on it!
3 years ago people were literally begging Apple to change the 30pin to something else. So they do, and come out with (what I feel is) the best connector in the business. Now they are "inconsiderate" and "constantly changing plugs". Make up your minds people. Lol
As someone else has mentioned somewhere on this forum before: docks have no way of being future-proof therefore that do not really cut it for people who upgrade every year. There's no point in blaming Apple, IOS musicians are not the only target audience for Apple. I personally think that the lightning connector is way better than the old one and I'm definitely enjoying the smaller form factor.
@iWhore said:
I agree with this. Plugs change and it's a PITA when they do but I don't think there is any evidence of Apple 'constantly changing plugs' at all. 30pin was around for 10 years. On par for most computer connections. When was the last time we saw a parallel port? Or SCSI connector?
But. We're musicians and many of us know the joy of plugs not changing — RCA, 1/4, XLR... all 50+ years old and working just fine, ty. Think any plug changes rub us a little more than your average iDock alarm clock buyer.
