New for audio in iOS 8 & Yosemite: MIDI over Bluetooth LE, new inter-app audio features, more

Seems Apple kept a few things to themselves in the keynote....

There are some interesting new advancements for audio coming in iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite that Apple didn’t discuss during its keynote presentation earlier this week. Two of the big new audio based features for end users, in addition to revamped CoreAudio APIs for developers, include MIDI over Bluetooth LE support and new features for the inter-app audio feature Apple first introduced with iOS 7.

    That doesn't sound good. Perhaps in the long run but what about existing apps that use the unrevamped apis? Do they all need to be updated? @sebastian, any shareable insight here?

  • I'm a bit bummed out, but I'll be OK. I'll be adding a few things to Apollo that I don't think Apple will offer, so I'm not cooked yet. And I did sort of expect this to happen at some point....

  • I wonder if we will see more BT midi controllers in the near future then. Although I'm not sure how latency would be with an actual master keyboard connecting via bluetooth.
