Animoog Z = Drambo Pop š
A Drambo jam that kind of turned into a pop instrumental. A full 8 tracks in Drambo, exported and arranged in Cubasis 3.
Trying to dial in a good mix down and also trying to keep the drums from being too loud while maintaining their punchy-ness with the bass is a matter of constant trial and error it seems.
Also, I canāt decide which version I like better. The original, straight from Drambo, or the Cubasis 3 version, where Iāve added another Animoog Z part, and an on the spot improvised piano track.
Exported from Drambo:

Imported into Cubasis 3. Added additional Animoog Z part, and a Ravenscroft 275 piano. 6144 EQ and Magic Deatheye on the master and utilized CB3ās āMixdownā feature to render the finished audio file.

Itās funny, sometimes I get the feeling that SoundCloud is purposely messing with my sound in attempt to sway me into purchasing their āmastering productā.
And for some reason (probably my fault, as Iām always rushing through things), Iām finding that I often have a bunch of blank space after my audio on SoundCloud?
Comments
Thanks!
So itās a known Cubasis thing? I wonder if @LinearLineman ever runs into this problem. He uses CB3 exclusively I think.
I did have that problem with Cubasis2 but never with Cubasis3.
I see. Hey, just wondering, have you had a chance to give this piece a spin?
I like both. I donāt know if this will work key-wise, but I want to hear the first minute of theCubasis version as a break down in the middle of the Drambo version.
I like those drums. Drambo or AU in Drambo?
Thank you! The drums are Hammerhead Rhythm Stationās āacousticā set, sequenced by Atom 2 in Drambo.
Listened to the second one, nice laid back feel + good to have a start, middle and end.
Has the licence on your GeoTenorSax expired?šš·
Thank you Tony!
Haha no, @LinearLineman says Iāve been using him too much. So without kicking him out of the band, I just gave him a couple nights off.
Heāll be back next week! (I hope! Unless he goes off and joins the Kenny G band - I heard they might be looking for a sax player lol)
Hi Ed. I have had the same thing happen on a few mixdowns.
I 'fixed' the problem by turning off the effects tail, and selected 'mix between locators'.
For some reason, I am not hearing anything when I try to play your track.
I tried rebooting, but same thing happened. Silence. Strange!
I'll try again later.
Ah! That āeffects tailā setting in the mix down process. Yup, thatās probably what it isā¦
Thanks, try again when you can! I promise thereās music there!
It plays just fine on my iPad, but not my desktop. Go figure.
That's a beautiful song. You have a real knack for writing lovely melody. Very well done!
You might also consider the mix between locators feature.
When I start a new project, I usually set the start/end locators well away from zero.
As the project develops, I place new parts before and after the song boundaries.
Then I can try them out and copy them into various locations in the song when I have something I like.
That might be handy with AUM or Drambo.
You could compose multiple parts with different instrumentation and record them outside the song markers.
Then you could try different arrangements of those parts as you assemble the final song.
When you settle on the final arrangement, just set the start end end points and mix down between them.
All of your work ups are still within the project, but are not included in the final mix.
I will often add a bit extra at the end if there is some reverb or echo that I want to preserve.
You don't actually need the effects tail at all!
Thanks for having a listen. And thanks for the tips on the āmix between locatorsā.
Iāve also been experimenting with the āNormalizeā function here in the Mixdown area.
I think maybe I like the first one better. As a general rule, simple, minimalistic harmony seems to work better with simple, minimalistic orchestration to my ear. Thatās just my personal taste. Good work either way though. You have a talent for expressing yourself.
Thanks! I appreciate the listen and the objective viewpoint. I do believe youāre right!
So I decided that I needed a āYouTube Versionā of this piece for my channel. I used the first version
(Straight from Drambo) and added some visual effects in CapCut.
Iāve decided that I prefer this version over the second one where I added the piano etc. Sounds a lot better in the car anyway!
Edit: oopsies! I didnāt notice the little blemish @1:56 where I guess I was engaging/disengaging AltiSpace 2 on the bass track? I didnāt remember that little mishap being recorded. Oh well!
