Neuro Basses in iOS plugins (2021)
Hey friends, following and watching a lot of tutorials and videos on how to come up with Neuro basses always end up in frustration when I try to copy that workflow (from Serum) into iOS World. Is somebody out there who is also enjoying a good Neuro bass (or Fog Horn basses) and having some insights and tip for iOS users?
I am sure Brams OTT is a good candidate in that chain for sure.
Happy for all pointers into the right direction! Thanks and have a nice start into the weekend!

Hey mate... I Have a vague notion what Neuro basses should be. But no idea production wise... Gonna check on some tuts regarding this. But my first thoughts on synths of choice would be Agonizer and Cyclops, with Turnado, Wow, Effectrix, Sequential, Bleass Motion FX and others like this in it's effect chain
Do you have some kind of example which kind of Neuro bass you have in mind? Serum often means wavetable and I think something like SynthMaster1 or 2 can do similar things.
Get SynthMaster One. In the factory presets you will find a few neuro Bass by Venus Theory, those are somewhat his signature sound, so he is pretty good with those.
SynthMaster One and SynthMaster 2 are probably the closest you are going to get to Serum on iOS.
Here is an overview by Venus Theory:
Thank you guys @senhorlampada / @WTK
I thought of SM too but I seem to be too dumb to get this going. Here is an example of the fog horn
And some neuro basses

Thanks for any help friends! 👊🏼
Watched stranger last night
All them videos
How weird
He has a new pack called wubs and wobbles
All in ableton, but he breaks it all down, so he has ya back
I definitely need to try that, too. I think I would use SynthMaster 2, AudioLayer and Cubasis. Cubasis has no resampling but you can freeze the track to record the filter motion and effects of each processing step. AudioLayer has got portamento. Yes, Bram’s OTT will be probably a good choice.
Definitely take a look at Cyclops, it was basically made for this type of bass.
Cyclops is pretty cool for this kind of sound. Unfortunately it’s a pita to program because everything is so tiny (at least for me on my 9.7“).
I forgot, but which DAW are you rockin these days mate? Also, definitely pick up Woott!
True. It’s also not helped by the black on black colour scheme that was all the rage about a decade ago.
honestly drambo is a great candidate, but also, i find that neuro basses are most about the processing rather than the synthesis. Notch filter sweeps, distortion and amp, weird impulse response reverbs, OTT compression as you mentioned, phasers, etc etc. a little bit of everything in multiple stages and you got some wonky stuff happening
To me most of 'that stuff' stuff sounds like FM passed thru foldback distortion?!
You’re def gonna need woot. Other than that, resample, resample, resample. Which on ios is a pia. You’re better off on a cheap laptop to begin with. But... if you’re masochistic, and willing to go with ios, then if you don’t fear a steep learning curve, drambo is a thing of beauty, and your best bet. And not me, but some folks here, will guide you on a very rewarding journey. Keep in mind it’s not the destination that matters, but the friends you make along the way
I use NS2 exclusively and resample all the time using one - or more (depending on how far I want to go) - instances of 4Pockets MultiTrackRecorder (MTR) in the insert fx chain of the synth I’m resampling.
Makes resampling easy. Couldn’t be simpler to be honest.
That said, I’m going to start giving Neon a try instead of MTR I think. Koala does an amazing job as well - although I prefer MTR’s automatic punch in and out when recording as Koala (as best as I know) lacks this feature.
I had no idea "farting robots" was a new genre of music. I missed the memo on this one.
Hey fellas, thanks a lot for your input and ideas and links.
I am following VT on Tube for longer but I never came across his oldest videos and these are awesome and super explaining the resampling workflow to achieve the neuros. Really appreciate the video.
I have Cyclops but this unfortunately not coming up with these sounds. I never got it really sounding to my liking. I tried to love that mutant tho.
As @attakk suggested the resampling workflow into iOS - I bought Neon audio editor today. Inside AUM….
used Synthmaster 2 to bring a detuned saw/square wave not into Neon. Filter notched in channel in AUM, sending to Mix bus and recording again into the next Neon instance. Really nice idea for resampling.
Problem is a) automation is unfortunately not possible (and is therefore not possible to edit the automation b) it gets out of hand (volume) real quick.
Bottom line, I haven’t still been able to achieve this - but I am still thankful for your suggestions and ideas. Excuse my late reply, life has been busy around here.
Hey JWM I am using most of the time Cubasis 3. But I think I have them pretty much all, except auria.
Automation curves are not cool to edit on iOS version of cubasis. As Venus Theory (video above) showed in this older videos how its working in cubasis, I thought this might be able to copy into cubasis (iOS) but its not the case.
Boy these are great patches by VT! I didn’t know about them. Just hiding behind some „8-Bass VT Mod Bass 2“ naming, are you kidding me
thanks for pointing these out. Great stuff to re-engineer them (even though its not easy for me as synthmaster patching has never really clicked with me)
I made some neuro-nass sound in Obsidian synth inside Nanostudio 2
here sound example, in descriptin is link to PatchStorage where you can download the patch
Hey dude,
I’ve been having a lot of luck transferring the workflow from DnB Academy’s how-to bass tutorials - i usually either use Kauldron or Obsidian with the appropriate FX plugins in place of where the Serum FX would be - it’s obviously never a 100% accurate replica but I’ve gotten at least 90% close each time - hit me up on Instagram DM if you wanna know more!
