Can someone just list the proposed Top 10 please and we can discuss?
I can look at a list in a few seconds but videos require a bigger investment.
If the list is intriguing or controversial I'd be more likely to bother.
I think my brain has been re-programmed to want immediate stimulation and
this form of marketing just hits the wrong buttons. If this guy participated more in the
forum I'd be more likely to have an interest in his opinions.
Totally agree, McD.
Here’s the list from the YouTube description:
Flowtones
Synthmaster 2
ANIMOOG Z!

Thanks... now that list DOES make me want to watch the videoto hear the synths
in order and compare them sonically. I think I own them all but if not I'd be influenced
to add one or more if the demo works. The one thing I like about videos is the ability to
jump around in the timeline if there's too much gab and not enough musical content.
Some videographers will talk for 3-5 minutes before playing a note... so I just poke ahead
until I hear something other than a droning voice.
Now, tutorial videos are completely different situations. More detail and images of UI
features is to be expected. But I have to be sold on the benefits of the app first and often I'm not.
@jakoB_haQ is a master of keeping the information flowing and telegraphing "what's coming" that many should emulate but there's no substitute for talent in this form of media
creation and delivery. Boring hosts are always going to have problems building an audience.
I’m thinking you didn’t mean to insult @MobileMusicPro, @McD, but it comes off that way. I find Mr. Vortex a good presenter, gives basics as well and is enthusiastic. And, after all, he did put the list in the YouTube description.
Was TAL-Uno-LX released in ‘21?
The biggest problem with many YouTube videos is the inability to get to the point and describe things succinctly. Many are not invested in taking the time to learn how to make better videos and just make more and more of them. I can look at the topic and the length of a video and pretty much tell if it’s worth watching. I also don’t watch any videos that will “take my breath away” or “change my life”.
🤣🤣🤣
No, taluno came out a year or two ago. Nice list Vortex. Surprised Id700 didn't make the grade, its always hard to leave things out!
So many fantastic synths to choose from these days. And making a list means narrowing down what one expects from a synth. Should it be a playable musical instrument? Should it be something capable of generating sounds like nothing before possible? I’m going think about this question a bit before making my list.
Apologies MCD I'll make sure to add the list in the post next time
Appreciate the compliments
Tal was released april of last year (2020).
Agree here. I try to offer a brief description, then explain what I like about the synth, and then demo a few presets. It's tough to do all that in just a couple minutes per synth but I'm certainly trying to keep it brief
Thanks Gavin! All of these are quite near and dear to me
Great points here, looking forward to the list!
Love to see the overlap!
Yah Digitalism is more a rompler but there's not enough romplers to do a top 5 rompler video lol.
Wow, I had to take a look at it turns out that the only synths released in 2021 that I still have are ID700 and Animoog Z, so I don't even have enough for a personal top 5
I don't blame you for marketing your efforts here but I also dislike blatant
plugs to pull me off the forum. You're not the only one that has an agenda here and I bristle when someone posts about their "for sale" presets or loops and then just disappears until they have a new "product" to hawk.
The trick as always is to build up good karma or a reputation as a good person. Tricky for many but I'm sure I have also put off many with my excessive use of this forum for my own diversion.
Covid lockdown and the isolation of aging in general has made me a crusty ol' fart. Go figure.
NOTE: This type of controversy keeps your thread on the front page for more to wander over to your video(s).
This isn't even a criticism of lengthy videos. It's hiding the most important info in the video instead of giving a tl:dw to peak interest/ signal what the video is gonna be about. I'll gladly watch a 40 minute video about the finer details of a random ass topic I'm not even interested in if the first 30 seconds I'm given an excellent summary of what I'm getting into.
This tom scott video could easily hide the answer til the end, but the mother fucker 'spoils' the answer before the 1 second mark ends. Didn't stop me from watching the rest of the video. It did stop me from not watching the video however.
With Animoog Z, there's almost no need for a top 5
True! I do really love ID700 though (despite not liking the way it implements sliders)
Polywave by Fingerlab is an amazing synth that was also released this year.
I think "controversy" might be a strong word but very much appreciate the feedback
That's one I've still not managed to delve deeply into but it looks more sophisticated than I first suspected.
SynthMaster2 for sure.
And I have to admit I was meh about Digitalism at first, but it’s grown on me. Especially since I got a keyboard and started playing more apps through my PA monitors.
I really like Agonizer. It may not be an all around synth but it very unique and deserves to be mentioned.
Animoog Z is an obvious 21 favorite
Surley not
In Vortex's defence, he does list the synths on the YouTube page, gives links for each to the App Store and even gives timestamps for each one. You don't have to sit through the video to find out the list.
I didn't watch the video but I gave it a thumbs up 'cause he's a good guy.
Thanks so much for the support Simon!
I felt the same way but after using and blending the sounds I really started to like it and use it more.
Really love agonizer, in fact we put it in the top 5 for 2020 since it came out last year
