RRS, OOO AU plug-ins
This isn’t meant to be a subtweet about another collection of classic studio emulations that is in crisis. But I have seen little discussion about these RedRockSound plug-ins.
https://apps.apple.com/us/developer/rrs-ooo/id1486125568
There was a thread when they came out, and a couple of people posted very authoritative comments about aliasing in at least one compressor (though the plug-ins seem to have an option for upsampling; not sure if that was there before).
These seem reasonably priced and they're free to try (the demo version is fully functional but lasts only five minutes before you have to reload it).
(We might just as well have a thread about DDMF plug-ins as well, which are great all across the board.)

These sound good, and the dev sounds like good ppl. I enjoy these ‘iOS’s best kept secret’ plugins.
Oversampling was added recently. I think these are pretty good effects too, though I reached mostly for MixBox because of the workflow (whole chain together), and because 1176 is my best friend ever
On the other hand this Neve comp is the next best thing
And their Neve and API eqs are nice too.
RRS doesn’t get much love around here, but they do make some nice plugins for sure
I have been trying to stop buying effect plugins for a bit so I haven’t yet got the newer pultec one.
The bass enhancer is a nice one
When I finish my first album, I plan to use the passive EQ collection in my chain to balance all the tracks to one another. RRS is top quality.
I bought all the plugin unlocks, even if I don't use them all regularly. These smaller developers deserve our support when their stuff works, AND when stuff doesn't work and yet they give good customer support without blaming the consumer if the consumer becomes upset. 😤
They’re well worth the price IMHO. 😎👍🏼
I might just buy all of them. I support hardware emulation plugins coming to iOS and hope to see more developers continue to port over their stuff
Yeah, these are all really nice effects. The passive collection is truly a great add to iOS; MixBox doesn't have the midrange Pultec, which is definitely a secret weapon compared to its more famous cousin.
They are cool, I really really like the neve comp emulation.
Yeah, I love the uad pultec mid eq, It’s very nice for pulling out a little bit of low mids on the master buss when I need to do that. I didn’t realize RRS made one now, I’m going to check that out.
Are these plug-ins 1:1 copies of famous gear, I assume?
Have I got this right?
EQP-1A and MEQ-5 (bundled together as the Passive EQ collection) are based on Pultec EQs.
Comp 609 emulates a Neve compressor.
EQ550 and EQ550b and EQ560 are, what, API emulations?
EQA is listed as a "classic British EQ from the 70s" — any ideas?
But beyond that, I feel like I'm on the edge of a rabbit hole, and maybe I shouldn't peer inside too closely....
EQ3 is based on NIGHTPRO EQ3D
Or on the NTI EQ3 created by Cliff Maag Sr. It's still available as the Maag EQ4.
EQ-A is a model of Trident A range console channel.
Only got the maag one as that offered something different to other eqs. Haven’t tried the pultec emulation. Be interesting to hear a comparison from someone who also has a desktop one…
EQA models the equalizers in the Trident A-Range console. Trident was a well-known London studio that also built and sold a few copies of its custom console. The EQA is still available as the Trident A-Range 500-series module. The distinctive aubergine color is apparently essential.
To me maag always seemed like a one trick pony... at least compared to the others in the line
This forum is amazing.
I was just messing around with the EQA on a single guitar track, and it's such an interesting way to work, attenuating these fixed frequency bands. I wish I had a better way to catalog these devices.
This is silly but it helps my nontechnical mind:
Comp 609 = "Hunky Dory"-era Bowie
EQA = "Killer Queen"
EQ550= "Pornography"-era Cure
[NOTE: THIS IS NOT MY EARS TELLING ME THIS; THIS IS QUICK GOOGLING WHEN I SHOULD REALLY BE WORKING.]
The Trident one is fire
Put in on a snare drum
