MF Adapter question

I understand MF Adapter allows older apps to work with AUM. Does it (or any other alternative) allow these older apps to work in other "hosting" apps, i.e. Keystage and/or Camelot Pro?

Also, is there any way to get support on the Midiflow products? I emailed and got a form letter response to say the only support is through their forum, but I can't find a way into the forum unless I already have a username and password.

  • I'm not sure if MF Adapter is needed any more with the wide support of Virtual MIDI ports. Have you checked whether the app in question can "see" AUM, or whether AUM can "see" the app as a MIDI device? If either is true then you're set. Which older app are you looking at?

I used MF Adapter once, to connect Music Studio (which is certainly old) to Audiobus. But then I realized that Audiobus can connect directly to Music Studio, and that's all I need.

In any case, MF Adapter just creates Virtual MIDI ports, so it should work with other hosts as it does with AUM (and Audiobus). Remember, it just handles the MIDI connection, does nothing for audio.

  • Yes, I'm only interested in routing MIDI (from my keyboards to the apps). But for example, Camelot Pro doesn't see Thumbjam, so I can't run that app within the CP environment. I thought MF Adapter might allow that. I didn't even consider the possibility of whether CP could see AUM... one host seeing another host. Does that work?? I have to admit, I haven't used AUM. I've tried a couple of times, and it just doesn't work with the way my brain works, I can't get anywhere with it.

Edit. Just realized you said midi.
Yes you can use audiobus and AUM together. You put AUM in the audio out slot in AB3. Also you can put cubasis in output slot of AB3 or AUM to receive and record the audio.

  • it is possible but probably not all hosts will work with all hosts. if the sender sends and the receiver, receives Virtual Midi aka Core Midi they should work. I think. Lol. Now I’m confused.

I use Xequence 2 and AUM together through IAA. But you can use them both in standalone if you set up the virtual midi correctly.

I think Midiflow adapter is Audiobus 3 only. I believe all of that developers apps are not AU, but Audiobus only.

  • I can't think of anything that MidiFlow Adapter can do to help you with midi routing. It was made as a way to get midi into an older iteration of Audiobus that couldn't accept it directly. That has changed and I can't think of any use for it.

Maybe you're thinking about MidiFlow (same developer, different app). And yes, there's a trick that sometimes works involving setting up MidiFlow to send to "Network Session" or something. I remember more than a few years back that working for some app or another that couldn't be seen by other apps.

Are you sure Thumbjam can't send to Camelot Pro? Does Camelot Pro show as a midi destination in Thumbjam? If so then you should be able to make it work.

Thanks for that lead... it took me a little experimentation, but I got it working!
