  • Just a question to anybody that has the M1 Air. Everybody is saying battery life is good but how long are we talking ? I am running Ableton and getting about 6-7 hours, are you getting more than that?

I’ve got the bog standard Apple M1 Air with 8Gb of memory and it’s a marvel. The performance is amazing. I can even play PC games using Parralells and it’s totally silent. Very impressive.

I have a big library on Steam, will it works on Parralells?

Shouldn't need Parallels, there's a native Steam client but need to make sure the GPU handle things depending on the games.

………a lot of handy Windows features and tools don't exist on MacOS.

1st time I’ve heard ASIO referred to as handy 🤪

No, audio works really great on MacOS and Bluetooth MIDI too, which is a nightmare under Windows.
I also prefer the bsd like command line by far.
But native window management and tools like Total Commander, IrfanView, AutoHotkey aren't available on MacOS, only hacks that work more or less acceptably. Still missing them till today, and I've tried looots of Mac apps.

I tried some games from steam (path of exile, northgard) and my M1 mac air 16 gb ram gets very hot. I guess its not the best for gaming

Have they been built for M1 specifically?

  • Having used both MacOS and Windows for audio processing, I would go with MacOS every time. MacBooks have become really good in the past few years, so see no reason to get any kind of desktop.

No i dont think there are many games for m1. Most run with rosetta.

But i have read that the heat shouldnt be a problem for the cpu because it will throttle itself down. Although someone mentioned that it could be a problem for the batterie and ssd.

I dont play very often because i dont use an external keyboard and at some point my fingers get kind of burned 😳

I mostly use it for making music and for that its awesome, doesnt even get warm ;)
