New update Buchla ID700

  • It may have originally worked that way. The default to large view may have been an update to the app or to AUM or AB.

id700 always had the small view, and if you resize it'll go back to it. also i plan to do a release today or tomorrow to remove the default size.

  • I would like to just please add the chorus of people who are suggesting a numerical keypad entry for values in this fantastic synth :-)

  • Im getting MASSIVE dB spikes many times when i try the randomise button while feeding midi in from Piano Motifs, i mean potential headphone destroying stuff - anyone else getting volume spikes from randomising? Strongly recommend using a limiter with this set to quite a heavy duty setting

Yep, does the same thing here

Have you set Auto Panic to On?

Ah, no, good call, didn't even know it had that

  • Is there a way to sequence the harmonics of the wave in ID700 like in Nambu?

Anyone else get abrubt exit after a few notes in standalone? 2020 base ipad up to date

No, works perfect in standalone. (iPad Pro M1, ipadOS 15.6.1) A reboot doesn't solve it?

Not seen that. Is this with all presets or a particular one? Using the onscreen keyboard or a MIDI controller?

  • i checked the app store and there were some crashes with a specific ipad model when changing the sample rate. i submitted a new version to the app store yesterday which includes these fixes.

  • Man what a synth! A true sleeper iOS classic in my book. Just spent an hour with it for the first time in a while. Top-notch work

i'm unclear on exactly what's happening there but you should be able to do this a couple of ways:
    1. you could "sequence" a timbre module with an envelope - see some of the presets in the Factory/10 Sequence folder, specifically MAJ_scale and Easel5Steps
    2. all 32 harmonics of waveshapes a + b are exposed as automation parameters so if you're running inside of a DAW you can use any external plugin to control them (not midi though - i ran out of CC's, otherwise i would have exposed them).

  • Version 1.18 of ID700 just dropped on iOS. Much, much smarter UI layout now. I finally understand how this synth is supposed to work! ;)

I somehow missed this one when it came out. Noticed it’s currently on-sale for $4.99 through November. Normally $9.99

I took a chance and bought it last night. Really digging this one :)

  • For any who wanted ID700 for their Mac, it's currently 50% off.

It's fascinating for sure, 5 bucks is a crazy price for this

  • Yeah, enjoying this one.

  • How do you change the notes or scale on the arp patches? I cannot even find the arp controls. Manual no help.

There is no built in arp or sequencer. Pitch modulation in ID700 is carried out using:

    • the oscillator’s envelope, (red in screenshot below)
    • modulation options (blue in screenshot)

It’s a bit tricky to control exactly, and the envelope is on a logarithmic not linear scale which can make timing tricky, but it does have a pleasing analogue-ish inexactness as a result.

For a more regular arpeggiated sound, maybe better to connect ID700 up to a MIDI arp or other note generator, but this wouldn’t work of course if you wanted e.g. to modulate cutoff frequency on a long slow envelope over a pitch change with the note held down.

Thanks, I heard those factory arp patches and thought there might be a scale or note setting, but I was wrong. Much appreciated!

  • afaik those arp/sequenced patches were created manually. when you use the copy button on an envelope it also stores the underlying XML in your paste buffer. you can paste this into a text editor and tweak the time/level values there (or add/remove breakpoints, etc). then copy that entire buffer and click the paste button to dump it back into the envelope:
