Best App for Screen Capture for Tutorials?

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone here has some experience making tutorials….. for example how to use AUM or some other app on iOS? The output MUST be video, not just a still picture.

I see TechSmith out there….. any other recommendations?

Thanks!

  • You can use the native screen recording.

Sometimes it fails on long recordings so I would advice to do it in 5 minute sessions to be safe.

Yes. But you have redeemed yourself by learning the violin and to use it in a modern way.
And your spelling indicates you're a rule breaker with an ear for sound. Gnome sane? Just saw this one yesterday... was it you?

  • @McD ….. that wasn’t me, but it’s pretty good

  • Is it possible to screen record on iPad using external audio interface instead of microphone?

Whatever is on the screen, and whatever audio is being sent to the ipad speakers/headphones as you record the screen, will be recorded. So yes, you can record external mics etc connected via your audio interface, no problem.

When I plug in my interface there is no message that something was connected - interface always works in loopy though. Am I supposed to confirm or tap on something to tell the iPad that something external is being used? After plugging in mic, I can hear the mic in Loopy. When screen recording, nothing.

Oh, you’d have to ask a Loopy user, @espiegel123 is your best bet

Already asked, waiting for a response. But it's not a Loopy question as I mentioned it always works in Loopy.

The OS automatically connects to the interface. When an interface is connected, I don't think the mic option in the screen recorder can be used. But if the mic is audible because monitoring is on, it will be on the screen recording.

So can't use external hardware as the input source when recording. correct?

Screen recording captures any audio sent to the current audio output.

Didn't realize I needed to have my mic input live in Loopy while screen recording. Thx guys

  • If I need to do screen capture for long sessions I use the Camera Adapter for HDMI output running into an ElGato capture card plugged into my desktop with OBS for recording. This lets me store video externally and have options for overlays and multiple video sources. Much easier troubleshooting hardwired chains than wireless connections in my experience.

If you need to capture external video using the iPad, then Genki Studio is great to use with the ElGato and Camera Adapter. I’ve taken my iPad and used it as a monitor for my Nintendo Switch at Smash Bros. tournaments before.
